👁️ Today's Apperception: Flexibility
I've been stretching nearly every day for about 8 months now. The first picture is obviously new but it is an accurate representation of how NOT flexible I was for most of my life. That was as far as I could go and I thought that was just how I was. Turns out stretching is really good for you. Who knew? (not old me) Physical flexibility provides several benefits: 1. Improved Range of Motion: Enhances the ability to move joints and muscles fully. 2. Injury Prevention: Reduces the risk of injuries by allowing muscles and joints to move freely. 3. Better Posture: Helps maintain proper alignment and reduces strain on the body. 4. Enhanced Performance: Boosts athletic performance by allowing more efficient and effective movements. 5. Reduced Muscle Soreness: Aids in quicker recovery and less soreness after physical activity. I have done this by disciplining myself to stretch after every workout every day for about 5 minutes. Here are some simple leg stretches I do: 1. Hamstring Stretch: - Sit on the floor with one leg extended and the other bent. - Reach towards your toes of the extended leg, keeping your back straight. - Hold for 15-30 seconds and switch legs. 2. Quadriceps Stretch: - Stand on one leg and pull the opposite foot towards your buttocks. - Keep your knees close together and push your hips forward. - Hold for 15-30 seconds and switch legs. 3. Calf Stretch: - Stand facing a wall with one foot forward and the other back. - Keep both heels on the ground and lean forward. - Hold for 15-30 seconds and switch legs. 4. Inner Thigh Stretch: - Sit with your feet together and knees bent outward. - Hold your feet with your hands and gently press your knees towards the ground. - Hold for 15-30 seconds. 5. Hip Flexor Stretch: - Kneel on one knee with the other foot in front, forming a 90-degree angle. - Push your hips forward while keeping your back straight. - Hold for 15-30 seconds and switch legs.

Doing yoga really helps me train flexibility and ensure I'm also building some strength in those ranges of motion. A habit of a 20 minute practice before bed has made me so much more agile/mobile, especially with emphasis on counter poses.
Reducing dopamine from habits
With the talk around dopamine detoxing, I thought I’d bring how smaller but more overarching changes to already existing habits can remind me why I truly do a habit or task. For example: I’m going to order unflavoured protein powder instead of vanilla, so it’s neutral rather than a sweet treat. I avoid music when working out. I restricted my painting supplies to one paint pallet and two brushes only. I restrict course-related study to 3 hours a day to ensure quality over empty busywork (Parkinson’s law). What are some changes you have made to minimalise/reduce your habits or daily tasks to help you focus on what’s important?

@Abraham Diop This works better for me, 1.5 hour blocks with 10-20 minutes of a non-stimulating break works well for me. I can unlock flow much easier/for longer if I’m not working for a “reward“

@L S Physical media is a big one. I think an object dedicated to one thing rather than a multipurpose device/streaming service makes the action of using the DVD much more purposeful. I would recommend this video :) why you should OWN books // reasons to read
sleep.
i've been currently researching on the importance of sleep, and chronotypes. which one are you? https://psychcentral.com/quizzes/chronotype-quiz (i'm in the lion category)

Absolutely the lion. Sleep and wake at the same time daily unless I have a commitment that will inhibit me from sleeping long enough (i avoid <6 hours). I think the most important aspect is strong morning and night routines to set you up for consistency

@Abraham Diop haha yup, my family have improved their routines based on how rigorously I follow mine. We have the power to impact others by simply showing up for ourselves!
Getting over fears (Purpose journaling)
Hey guys, I'm stuck on day 4 of Abraham's purpose journaling. It's the day where you identify self limiting beliefs/fears. I've seemed to identify them, but can't seem to complete the action step of brainstorming ways to not let these fears limit me. I'll write my summarized fears below, if you have any advice on them or just want to relate, let me know I'm all ears. 1. Fear of my own unpredictable emotions- losing motivation, losing determination/drive. 2. Fear of failure and what it means about me 3. Fear of uncertainties of life 4. The death of self that comes with growth 5. Rejection (from myself & others) 6. Vulnerability 7. Experiencing negative emotions

These are pretty similar to fears I've had to address so here are some ways I would/have been dealing with them :) 1. You've pointed it out yourself - emotions can be unpredictable. The best thing you can do is learn to respond to emotions rather than react. For example, if you lose motivation to go to the gym one day you would respond by following a step-by-step plan to complete a task anyway (stand up. put on gear. pack bag. walk out door etc), and learn from previous situations 2. Truly define failure for yourself. In the moment a mistake can feel so dramatic but if you shift your perspective you can reinvent most failures into future successes. Again, use them to your advantage, you have your whole life ahead of you and failures can be so useful 3. I think Abraham has mentioned in a couple of videos that if something is truly out of your control the only thing you can do is move forward. Uncertainties happen, and how you respond determines how positively or negatively it impacts you. 4. Just as there is a death of your past self with growth, there is a death of the version of you that you could become if you continue on your current path. It's really about checking in with yourself every step of the way and deciding what actions you are making towards becoming a person that makes you OK to leave your current self behind 5. Something revolutionary for me making peace with rejection is learning about my ego (I read Ego is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday to learn more). If a rejection hurts my ego then I welcome it with open arms. Any opportunity I can take to disarm my ego and keep it from having control over me is essential and makes rejection a tool. Similarly to building up the muscle of self-discipline, they'll get easier and easier to deal with. 6. Vulnerability is difficult because it can be a positive thing, but as self-improvement tends to make clear, you need to sit down and decide what is important to you and ignore the rest. The prompts on core values can guide you on this :) 7. Pretty much the same as point 1, except a specific note on this is treating negative emotions like a crying toddler. Let them throw their tantrum, recognise if the root cause is worth addressing, but try not to feed into the self-righteousness of anger or the wallowing of sadness/self-pity. emotions come and go, you'll be OK. Also, meditate. Meditation is awesome.

Hi! I'm Hana. I began a business management diploma this year. By the end of the year, I'm hoping to work on becoming a digital business manager and finish my qualifications. My ultimate goal is 20-hour work weeks to have time to commit myself to self-directed learning. I also want to become more minimal and purposeful in my daily life :)
