Chirimoya season !
As I was voraciously going through a mono meal of luscious chirimoyas, I felt an urge to share it ! We're having here in Europe an amazing chirimoya season, the very best in many years, from the tropical coast of Spain. Dry weather gave great figs, and a way too short mango season, but unexpectedly, nature has it's ways, incredible chirimoyas. I must say it's an important part of my diet, when the bi-annual season comes (september/october + april/may). I live in France and we are lucky to import this fruit more and more. Chirimoya production is going up every year, as more and more trees are planted, and farmers are keen to diversify from the predominant avocado culture. I visited the place last year, and I found it a great example of the virtuous circle of fruit consumption : as the demand rises, offer is adapting, and trees are planted. The cost was only producing sugar cane, grapes and pears 60 years ago, and now, almost all the mountains are planted with tropical trees (papayas, bananas, chirimoyas and many more), thanks to pioneers farmers. True not everything is perfect, as there's too much mono-culture with lined up trees, and farmers are very dependent upon water dripping irrigation, but hopefully the trees may bring their own water, reducing the threatening dryness of the area. At least it gives some hope, as grain fields and cattle will inevitably and without a doubt be followed by desert. On the photo you can see two variety, almost identical in taste : "campas" with the little dots, and "fino de Jete" with the smooth skin. All of them are really creamy this year. I guess I'm really enthusiastic about this fruit, and it's history in Europe, as a great example of what could be possible if more people go to a fruit based diet. I hope you're also having great fruit season wherever you are !!

Tune ups are good
Did what was likely my final tune up for my competition this coming weekend. Squats were easy, and bench was work, but everything went as planned. Let's hope they do so on the day. The point? Even today's gentle workout still counts, and is way better than doing nothing. If you don't have time to do a lot, do a little. Putting yourself through your paces is valuable effort well spent. Find a bit of time today to exert a bit, then tell us what you did.

Good luck, been chasing grandsons last couple days but did my sauna this morning with dry brushing, always makes me feel better when I do that.
Gardening!
Who else here gardens? I'd love to see pics! How does your garden grow? 😉 Our garden has been more abundant than we expected here at this time of year and have been harvesting our greens, etc. via thinning things (my favorite way). I've been eating high quality greens for decades, growing many of those directly, however I have to say these greens are the best greens I've ever had -- and Darrel said the same. Amazing! I would have thought otherwise given the weather extremes and critters the plants are subjected to sometimes, not to mention the high pH. Still, we're not keeping up (even though I eat over 2 pounds of greens from the garden daily, and Darrel eats some too), so today we decided to go to a place people sell things (like a flea market) and sell some of it. It was kinda' fun, brings back memories of when we were organic farmers for a living on Kauai. Here are some pics from today of some of what we have growing and some of what we brought to sell. We have some things protected by hardware cloth (~1/4" wire mesh), and some things in the ground directly (still protected by field fencing and a bit of chicken wire). The picture of the protected raised bed has the door open for harvesting (above). There are all types of hungry critters here, and I'm wondering if or when they'll breach our fencing and discover everything in the ground... hoping that doesn't happen, or at least not too badly for our harvests. 🤞 If it does, we have the two protected beds too, and they've been great. We also have a bunch of things in pots, a few dozen fruit trees in the ground (only a handful are producing so far), grapes, and pecans. Enjoying apples currently.

@Barbara Whitney can you plant and harvest a peach tree there? I live in South Carolina and the last coupe of years frost came late and killed a huge portion of the crops, very sad but good luck praying it works for ya.

Not right near us but many peach, pecan orchards within 50 miles but the road department loves to spray instead of mow so I've had to put up no spray signs along the perimeter. Unfortunately they spray so close to the property it's effecting the bees around us. So frustrating.
