Can't eat mangoes and papayas
Does anybody have a problem eating mangoes and or papayas? I used to be able to eat them both and then didn't have them for a couple years and now I am doubled over in pain for about 3 hours if I eat them really really bad pain. Now I'm just afraid to even look at them. I don't know what causes this. I've read a few too many of them you could have this problem but I only eat one so that's not the problem. I eat them on an empty stomach so they're not mixed up with any other food so that's not the problem. I just love mangoes and papayas and I am so sad.

@Ela Harrison no problem with any other fruits..just mangoes and papayas. I just don't understand because I used to be able to eat them. And I've tried to eat them now two or three different occasions and the result is always the same.
humans vs monkeys
Hi, I would love to get Doug's or anyone else's in put on this. I found an article about human vs monkey anatomy and diet comparisons, and I read it very carefully. It is here: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10378206/. First I want to say I very much prefer 801010rv to a cooked diet. But a couple of things in this article made me question it: 1) our digestive tracts aren't the same as monkeys. Human small intestines are twice as big as most monkeys and our large intenstines are half as long. The author said the monkey's large intestines absorb nutrients from the greens that they eat. My understanding is that the small intestines absorb digested food. There are some scientists who say we've been eating cooked food for 800,000 years which is long enough for us to evolve a digestive system suited for that--longer small intestines for absorption of cooked food? and shorter long intestines since we can cook our vegetables and don't need to digest them raw? and 2) the fruit monkeys eat is very different from cultivated fruits we eat today. Our fruits have much less fiber and more fructose and less glucose. However, if you take into account that sucrose is half glucose and half fructose, the amount of fructose vs glucose (when including sucrose contributions) is not terribly different. For monkey fruits, glucose is 60-50% and for our fruits, glucose is 50-40%, typically. but monkey fruits do have quite a bit more fiber it seems and aren't as sweet in general. So that suggests our fruit is not the same as our ancestors ate. However, neither are our cooked veggies and starches. I just began to wonder if our cultivated fruits are too low in fiber and too high in sugar to be optimal. and...if we should be eating some cooked veggies, which allows a larger variety and gives you more nutrients even though some are destroyed in cooking--but the articles I've seen say that you get 50% of your vitamins and all your minerals from cooked food (when you eat the broth as well).

Wow Barb. .good find..very interesting read. You're a good detective! So many podcasts and YouTube's talk about the same thing.. how similar the monkeys and apes and humans are in their digestive systems to show that they should be eating the same things. This is the first article I have seen that shows the difference in their digestive systems. Thanks so much Barb!
Apples
Do apples have a significant place in your 811 regimen ? Do you eat them often, especially in winter ? It did for me in the beginning of my transition, but I noticed for the last three years that I consume them less and less. To the point that today I cannot imagine making a mono meal of apple, as I find usually myself more hungry at the end of the meal than before, and they provoke almost always some kind of stomach ache. At best it is a little snack nowadays... It's far from being a sub-tropical/tropical fruit, maybe that's the reason ? I only go for good organic ones of course, as it's one of the worst spayed fruit. I've also noticed Doug doesn't mention it once in the week of eating examples of the 801010 book. What is your experience ?

@Rhonda Youngblood I just looked up Cosmic crisp apples on their site and read that their apples are waxed except for the organic apples. Those are not waxed so I ran out to the store and bought some organic Cosmic crisp apples..so happy.
85/5/10
Hey everyone, I have been raw now since 5 months and 85/5/10 is what my calorie ratio has settled at, due to the produce readily available to me. I am getting a little worried though, that according to 811 im on the lower side of protein intake. Does anyone have any experience if it is too low or not? I live in Germany, and in the winter im having a hard time coming by affordable fruit in the higher >5% protein range. For my main fat source I prefer avocados over nuts, as my digestion, energy and moods seem to prefer them. Open for any tips :)) Fyi, my current diet: 2400kcal bananas 500kcal oranges 300kcal avocado 70kcal parsley/dill/koriander 40kcal tomato

@Thibaut Louvel what's a rest day?
Long trips
I'm going to Costa Rica for almost 7 weeks. I love my work, and yes, I must continue to work. Good thing I love what I do. The only part I don't enjoy is being away from my family. My wife, my daughter, and yes, even my daughter's little Bijon dog, Daisybelle, who adopted me and gets me out of the house for walks every night. How do you handle being away from family? Any special strategies?
