Winter months
What are some of yall's strategies to work around snow/cold days? If it's a garage do you have a specific way you cover the garage door so no snow comes in? Do you just stop offering these kind of jobs and stick to interior? What recommendations do you tell your clients?

Hey Rodolfo! I’m from Toronto, so winter temps here get pretty rough. Last year, we didn’t do any outdoor jobs during winter, but this year we’re preparing to work throughout the season. I’ve invested in tents with side coverings and am currently looking for space heaters to keep the work area warm. If there’s too much snow or a storm, we’ll reschedule, and clients are usually understanding. I also plan to let them know upfront that winter jobs might take a little longer due to temperature adjustments. On top of that, I’m pushing to get more commercial and industrial clients since winter tends to be their slower period.

@Rodolfo Martinez Hi Rodolfo, I use a polyaspartic that can be applied in temperatures as low as -30°C. While the cure times increase in the cold, the product will still cure properly during the winter. To ensure smooth application, I recommend running a space heater while grinding to maintain the surface temperature. Also, make sure to keep the polyaspartic in a warm area before mixing, it helps with workability and ensures the product performs as expected.
Cost SQ. FT. to Grind Only?
If you were to price quote just the cost to grind the concrete. What would you charge per square feet? Would this differ if you owned your grinder and equipment vs had to rent the all the equipment? Curious to see your thoughts thanks! I'm just starting up coating find this group to be very helpful getting my business started up.

Hey Jacob! I usually aim for $2-$3 CAD per square foot, depending on the specifics of the job. For example, I recently did a 300 sqft project for $2 per square foot since it was close by, had no sidewalls, and I have my own equipment. If there are sidewalls involved, I bump it up to $3 per square foot because it requires more work. Owning your equipment definitely helps keep costs down, but it’s always good to adjust based on the job requirements. Hope this helps!
Job Site Generator
Up till now I've run on the homeowners power, usually direct from the box with a 10 gauge extension wire but I'm interested in having a generator option. My emergency generator is a Champion gas powered unit, specs are 6500 running watts, 7800 peak watts. Not sure if this is good enough to run a 120V vac /3 motors + pre separator and a 240V 13.2Amp ASL T2 grinder but since I'll probably add a slightly bigger grinder down the road I wonder if extra watts will be needed. Not looking at any commercial work right now, strickly residential. Would love to know what you all are using or see as a good value option?

Hey Neil! I recently went through the process of choosing a generator, so hopefully I can offer some useful tips. I have a Husqvarna PG 510 grinder and a Husqvarna DE 120 vacuum, and my supplier recommended a minimum of 9000 running watts just to handle those two. To future-proof my setup, I went with a generator that has 12,000 running watts, which I found at a good price from Costco (Champion brand). One thing to keep in mind is that you might need a 10-gauge wire to make a pigtail connection for your grinder—mine didn’t fit directly into the generator, so I had to make that adjustment. I’d suggest checking the wattage needs for each of your machines and maybe going a bit above to be on the safe side if you plan to add bigger equipment down the road.

How do you handle selling during quotes?
I'm trying to make the quoting process as professional as possible for my epoxy flooring business. Do you guys bring brochures or handouts when meeting clients? Do you have any other materials or techniques that help you close the deal? I’m looking for suggestions on what makes a quote presentation effective and leaves a lasting impression on potential clients. Any advice or strategies would be much appreciated!
