Book Club meeting June went great!
Thank you to everyone who joined the meeting. We had a good time discussing the book 'Thunderstruck' that our presidential team @Shameem Fathima and children had chosen. Thank you very much @Shameem Fathima and to A and M who hosted the meeting and led the discussion. ❤️ I loved how you highlighted how the author of 'Thunderstruck 'wrote several books, mostly in libraries. I am sure that motivated many of us to go find a quiet place and get work done. We also heard from the fabulous L, @Mansi Jain's son who is writing two books, one with his friends and one by himself. That was super inspiring L and has given me so much hope for my book! We learnt a new word 'poltergeist'- does anyone know what it is? Maybe you can find out? We found amazing things that people would do if they had superpowers including us mums who would love to finish the tasks on our to-do lists 🥳 @Kasthuri Venugopalan and I agree on that! The book may be available in your local library or on Amazon https://amzn.to/3xAXudv The recording of the meeting is available to parents on the OS program in the Book Club module https://www.skool.com/the-11-plus-journey-6704/classroom/5d069d57?md=a0b0312811fe4126b4fb20ab252631a8 Have a lovely rest of your Sunday!👍 @Mega Arumugam and team, it is your turn to be the host for July. The date would be 28th July.❤️

@Kasthuri Venugopalan thanks so much for the feedback! We also had fun and spent lot of time putting it together. It’s was a nice experience and thanks to @Sabah Hadi for giving us this opportunity! We all learnt a lot.. especially my kids taught me how to do different animations in the PowerPoint.. it’s been a while since I created a presentation myself.. and collating my kids work was a learning.. we were super busy whole of last week and we were up until 11:30pm preparing the presentation on Saturday night! It was fun working together..
Advice
Hi! New to this group, so hello everyone! My son will be going into year 4 in September and I want to start him on the 11 plus journey so I am currently looking at tuition options and maybe some online apps/tools if anyone can recommend? I keep seeing Atom Learning and Examberry popping up on my facebook and was wondering if anyone on here has used these tools as part of the learning process for the 11 plus and do you recommend? I have no idea how to start this journey so any advice given is welcome. My son seems quite confident in Maths and seems to enjoy this (he is in the top set at school) so I would like to continue to encourage this with him but it’s English I am more concerned with as he seems to lack confidence yet he is a strong reader (currently reading Harry Potter books). Thank you! X

Welcome @Ros K to this group.. pls go through the materials available in the group especially the subject wise revision materials.. My son is writing exam this Sep.. to be frank pls don’t force much on your kid with Titian’s at year 4 itself.. he might get bored and worn out by the time he gets into the exam.. take it easy! You hav already mentioned that he is good with maths and English needs reading which he is currently doing and good for you. Maybe his reading is just not very deep. Sit with him for atleast 30 mins each day or alternate days and discuss the book he is reading.. ask him to read out loud and make him look out the meanings in the dictionary for the tough words.. ask him questions reg the bit which he has read.. to make sure that he is reading in depth.. I would recommend bond books or the bond online app to start with at year 4 as it’s not too complicated.. by the end of year 4 he will get the hang of it and you can by that time decide on a good tutor. From start of Year 5, you can put him with tutors and scheduled classes which will also give him some time to breathe and enjoy as well😊 Of course this is totally my opinion and this is what I did with my son who is going to write the exam this Sep.. Clearing grammar school exam is not easy! Even though you know the answer - you may not hav the time to go through all the questions and complete the paper which will come only with regular practise and I feel it’s all hyped up and everyone are getting stressed out.. including me! But I have learnt and understood it through out the process! Please mention what exams are you targetting for? The preparation will also change according to the exam. But I feel children should not be stressed at the start of yr 4 itself.. all the best! We are here to help! All of us are parents and we can discuss and get it clarified. But pls go through all the modules in OS journey, give it a proper thought! You will be clear on how to go about
Creative Writing CHALLENGE postponed to beginning of July 🥲
Hey, all those who signed up for our 5-day Creative writing challenge and all of you on the OS program- we are having to postpone the Creative Writing challenge to the beginning of July. I am so sorry for this. Something challenging has come up and I really need your prayers and support to sort it out. 🙏 @Mandy Broomhead will be taking the sessions along with me and it will be grand and transformational for your children 😻 The only thing is it is not starting this Monday but it is going to be just as EPIC, if not MORE!! Again, I am sorry for the inconvenience dear parents. Please bear with us as we sort out things. 😬 I will be emailing all those who signed up with the details soon. 🔺❤️

Book for the month of June - Thunder Struck by Ali Sparkes
Dear OS Parents! Hope you are having a relaxing Sunday and I am sure there would be a day out planned ahead! Thanks to the good weather! With @Sabah Hadi's encouragement, I am happy to run the book club meeting for this month. A brief about me - Juggling between multiple roles of being a mom of 3, IT professional, wife and daughter, 11+ teacher to my children and so on.... 😀 I know most of us are in the same boat travelling together! All the best to everyone in their journey! I have a boy who is going to sit for the 11+ exam this Sep and a girl who is currently in Year 3 and will start her preparations next year, after I take a break from my son's exam prep! 😀 My children suggested the below book and we are going to work as a team to make it more interesting! In fact, I might be just overlooking while they will be running the show mainly! We selected this book as it sounded quite interesting and might have lots of deep conversations ahead. Book: Thunder Struck Author: Ali Sparkes Sneak Peek into the book: What if your new best friend was a ghost? Getting struck by lightning whilst huddling under a tree isn't exactly the way 2 friends would have chosen to get out of their sports day . . .Surviving the strike makes them see life differently. A fun and fast-paced ghostly mystery with lightning strikes, floating phantoms, and four fantastic friends just trying to get on with their everyday lives . . . or deaths . . . Yes, its a sci-fi book talking about supernatural powers! Hope you find it an interesting read. Let's catch up end of this month and discuss more about the book and such paranormal powers. No worries, if you have not read this book, but we can talk about similar books which you have had a chance to read! Looking to see you all and have an interesting interaction with all lovely children! Have a lovely Day and a great week ahead! Thanks Shameem.
