MY CHILD MAKES MISTAKES AND HAS LOST INTEREST- IS THERE A WAY OUT?
Is your child repeating mistakes, and you see a loss of interest or they are just not with you on this journey? Children that age may not be and it is fine. My eldest gave me a tough time and even though it felt like the end of the world, I got up the next morning and tried a different approach. I told him that we were giving our best and he doesn't have to get into THAT ONE school. That is a lot of pressure on a child and no child should have that on them. Mistakes are inevitable and I say this and offend people- necessary. I make mistakes all the time, once just happened over the weekend, a massive one which really shook me. And taught me that mistakes can teach you stuff about yourself you didn't know. You can review yourself, make that weakness your stepping stone into the light of knowing, of awareness. So cut some slack and go to the bottom of the problem and find out what's going on with your child. You become AWARE and so you become better at not doing that thing again. Have they understood/ understanding the concepts? It would also help if you did pratical stuff like spelling out a word- if that is where they are making mistakes or making a paper cube and explaining how it works- if NVR is a problem. Faling out of interest is natural too. However, letting your child be a part of the process and getting them invested in the prep will help them to feel that they are in control rather than something they are forced to do. I will add two links , one to the Planning and Revision Guide. This has helped parents to plan out revision and includes resources which can help you and your child with mindset, manging time so long as you implement it. It will help you understand why children make mistakes and how you can use these mistakes to get better, plan your schedule and revise.

Educator Session on Comprehension
We have a super interesting educator session on 'Why children struggle with comprehension & the technique that will improve it'. For Year 4 and Year 5 children and their parents, this is a session not to be missed. It is on January 10th, Friday at 5:30 pm and you can use this link to sign up for it. If you are part of our Learning Journey Programme for Years 4 and 5, this session is free for families. If you want to find out about these programs, email us at sabah@the11plusjourney.co.uk You don't need to pay for this session if you join the programme before the session. I have just sent a festive update email to the families on my programme with all the details. The biggest challenge with getting into your preferred school, despite thousands of people offering tuition, is there’s no clear organised information for parents on how they can support their children. There's no real connection between the support you can give your child and the knowledge YOU need to have to do that. Our programmes solve this problem. Want to find out more? Email me at sabah@the11plusjourney.co.uk or find out more on our website.

Ditch the new year resolutions
It’s a brand new year, and I’ve decided to cancel my New Year’s Resolutions—and I think you should too. Resolutions are often well-intentioned promises that rely heavily on motivation and willpower. Unfortunately, those can waver, especially when juggling the demands of family, work, and preparing for the 11-plus tests. Instead of focusing on lofty goals, I’ve found that progress happens when we build reliable systems—habits, routines, and frameworks that guide us daily. These systems don’t depend on perfect days; they work consistently, even during the busy ones. For 2025, let’s focus on creating systems that make your child’s 11-plus preparation smooth, structured, and stress-free. To kick-start the year, I’ve put together a few ways we can support you and your child on this journey: All links for the information below will be on our links list. Click here for the links list. You can ask if you have a question, I am here to help you. #1 Attend Our Comprehension Skills Session (10th January) Comprehension is a crucial component of the 11-plus exams. Join us for an interactive session where we’ll work through techniques that build confidence and improve performance. This is free for all on the LJ Programmes. The Zoom link will be in the calendar. #2 Take on the Vocabulary Challenge Building a strong vocabulary is essential for 11-plus success. Our Vocabulary Challenge Workbook is designed to make learning words fun and effective. You can grab your copy from our website shop. #3 Sign Up for the Year 4 Learning Journey Programme This programme is your roadmap to success, offering structured lessons, ATOM school accounts, parental guidance modules, and much more. Early bird bookings are open till the end of this month. Access our Community and Year 4 programme Trial Pack #4 Create a Daily Study System Encourage your child to focus on small, manageable tasks like 15 minutes of vocabulary practice or solving a few maths questions. These micro-habits compound into great results over time.
