Rested -- Back into the Water
Took a few days off from swimming. Back intio the pool today. Decided to go to the Recreation Classes today. My comfort level is really good. After class tried to work on the Caribe Classroom briefing technique section. It's funny but I can not seem to raise my chin for this techique for some reason. I can manage to rotate to swim freestyle for a short distant. i can do the propulsion exercise just great so I checked this one off. But maybe my head is too big to lift, ( ha, ha!). I seem to be comfortable but that big head of mine just doesn't want to raise to chin level to get that breath. Oh by the way in class he had us go to bottom of pool to pickup a weighted brick. That was fun. I somehow need to know what to do to get to 5 on the breathing technique. Suggestion please, Somewhat stuck.

Hanging by a Thread
I am trying to use the techniques here. But, I am still in my swim lessons at the pool. And, he is really pushing us hard to swim the full length. I just can't seem to get my breathing timed right. I don’t feel afraid any more and using the breathing techniques. I just can't get the breathing or rhythm correct. My stamina seems really bad and I get so tired. Part of this maybe with the breathing. I stay after classes and work on the techniques here. Just not seeing or feeling improvement. I am trying to stay encouraged but finding that really difficult at times. At the end of the day, I am exhausted and feel really ready to throw the towel in. But, oh well tomorrow is another day. Hanging by a thread but still trying to push on!

Thanks for the encouragement. Promise to do the 3 things you asked me to do. I have put in a lot of time and though I see progress, it is difficult when people in the class keep moving on and I seem stuck. But, I will go back in with a totally new attitude and give my best. It would be good to talk and this Thursday or Friday around 12:30pm EST would be great. I don't know how to set this up not too computer savy. Can you see my email address?

Once again, thank you all. Feeling better! The instructor is really pushing which is pressure, people at the pool (other swimmers) are pushing more pressure and then there is me. There are some things I can do and I enjoy doing like streamlining, going to the bottom of 12 ft on a pole and coming back up, I enjoy just floating face down, I am able to come from the deep end ( 12ft) on my back to the shallow end. So I am going to give my self credit for those things. I can do the front stroke but I stop at 5ft. Maybe I do need to just back off for a while. I am certainly putting in the time for a very long time. I am in the water 5 days a week (Mon/Wed/Fri aquatic exercises 1 hr) then I try to practice some technqiues after that for 30-45 min. Tues/Thurs swim classes 45m-1hr) and I stay in the water for approx. 45-1hr practing. I plan to go back to the video on breathing techniques and roll overs and work with that for a while. I may even take a few days off. But, I won't give up. Thanks for the encouragement!!

Still trying to figure out where to post. I posted a message under general "Hanging by a Thread" which I should have posted here. I see now that my issue is more a Barrier. Hopefully, you will see it and comment.
Update / Questions
Classroom Questions: Effortless Propulsion and Effortless Breathing. These two exercises are to be done in the shallow end of pool. My location goes from 3ft to 12ft its a 25m pool. I am comfortable with the relaxation and much better with the fear. Self check has been done, so I am ready for these next steps. Not sure if I am ready for the deep end, the entire length of the pool yet. So what distance am I really suppose to use. I have not been going over the 5.5 ft. After 5.5ft, I cannot stand up or touch the bottom. For me this is shallow. How long (seconds) am I suppose to be able to hold breath in doing exercises. I am practicing the Diaphragmatic breathing in and out of the pool, can hold up to 20+ seconds. The hard parts are coming -- Determined!

Sure
New Beginnings
I just joined. I am in my mid-70s. I started taking lessons a few years ago at my recreation center. I can see some progress. I go to the pool 2x a week for swim lessons. My progress has been very slow. I spend 1.5hrs those days. I am still not able to do laps. I am starting your course from the beginning and self-checking for #5 before moving forward. I will be doing the breathing exercises you listed. I am able to freestyle a little but cannot do laps. I don't seem to have the energy or technique for laps. My thinking is to start this program from the beginning and work through it to pickup new strategies and techniques that will help to move me forward.

In my mid-70s, learning to swim late in life. Has been difficult but rewarding. Still have fear of deep water. So Very Happy I found CSASL w/J&M.
