My swimming journey so far
Hello to the Caribe Swim Community and a big shout out to coaches Jeff and Meredith! My name is Ijeoma and I joined the community to get help with my swimming technique and to build endurance.Having been swimming and taking regular lessons for three years, I do swim the whole length of most standard 25m to 30m pools but I have not been able to do more than one lap without taking a short rest which I suspect to be a mind over matter issue. I found Jeff’s YT video on shallow water swimming quite revealing particularly the segment about complete relaxation. I still have a fair way to go towards completely mastering my fear of deep water and hoping to enrol on the paid membership by taking advantage of the early bird discount. NB. I cancelled the book purchase I made 4 days ago and hope you will let me know how refund will work. Many thanks

One thing we believe about going back to the foundations, if you’re a swimmer that fears depth, is that it has to become more about how long and how far you can propel yourself through water, without effort, sustainably. That’s what helps us feel safe and confident in our ability to always get air, and float, regardless of depth. When we develop a deep trust for the water and our ability in it, we make a partnership with it. It’s Not necessarily about in what way you do it. And as you can gain gentle endurance doing super simple techniques and mastering them, truly, truly mastering them to a point you do it with instinct, you can get more exposure to swimming further distances, first… before trying to swim far with freestyle. you can gain exposure for the very foundational movements that all comprise a very complex stroke like freestyle, with simple glides and pulldowns, roll overs, you can begin to gain higher endurance for consistent freestyle because you have a deeper feel for how you move through and use water as a tool for your forward movement, and your body can relax into the movement and the glide while also stretching yourself forward & moving with the water. It becomes less exhaustive when you spend a lot of time learning how to swim without effort, or to swim “SLOW”. You can also practice swimming at home, out of the water. One thing I notice when I do this, is sometimes how tired I get after just a few strokes/rotations, and I’m not even doing the breathing sequence that goes with it. Make sure you’re giving yourself the right warm up movements and breathing exercises before doing freestyle and that could help improve your endurance & over all feel for the water that day. By spending time relaxing and opening your shoulders and lungs up I think you’ll find improvement. Also begin envisioning yourself swimming. I did this all the time for big events and it truly, truly helps connect your mind to your body and your body to the water and download what you’re asking your body to do. It even has been shown to give you a literal actual work out too! With all the benefits of it. I hope this all helps. Would still love to learn about anyways you find that help you on your learn to swim journey!

New to the community! 3 day challenge
Hi I’m Pam Smith, 56 years young. I’m in Burleson TX and taking swim lessons at the Brick. I need help with breathing and kicking. I’m comfortable with the water but I’m going back to the basic with breathing for the day 1 goal. I think I had hope that going once a week would help. I have been in class for 6 months once a week and I can backstroke 25 yards but I can’t freestyle which is due to breathing and kicks. I have marked my calendar to go 3 days a week to see if that helps

I am certain that you will accomplish what you’ve set out to learn by increasing your amount of time practicing weekly and following our program to master shallow water. Very excited to welcome you to the community and to see all the wonderful skills you’ll achieve!
