trainers — assessments?
this one’s for all the other PT’s out there. while I agree with Angus that we are not obligated to formally assess clients, many of the clients in my context come to me expecting some sort of assessment, so I’ve built it into my first session with them. my “assessment” movements look like this — rotational MB throw skipping crawling (usually bear crawl) goblet squat max output assault bike generally throw some pogos at them in that first session as well, or some type of two legged jumping. what I like about each of these is that none are high skill, so they allow for me to see how the client self-organizes their technique, and all can be taken to a pretty high level of output in a safe manner. these movement can also be used to reevaluate progress fairly easily, so make for good benchmark movements to include in your programming. also is a great tool for prospecting on the gym floor as you can walk someone through a 15 min “workout” that includes all of these, give them a good workout, and be able to tell them a lot about how they move (makes ya seem like a wizard).

@Mike Ng yep I do pretty much the same! I find most of my clients (>50%) have a tough time showing me a good hinge so I usually don’t bother in the first session, cause I’d rather give them a win by having them show me a rly good squat. back to wall shoulder flexion is a good one except that mine is complete dog sh*t so I can’t even show them a good example 😅
Adductor pain
Anyone got any tips? I get some groin/adductor pain, probably a loading issue but wanted more opinions. I play in runs 2-3 times a week, lower body lifting 2x, upper 2x, sprinting 2x and plyos 1-3 times

Do you do any direct adductor work? Adding some in and then managing training load session to session was the key to helping my adductor issues.
Rippetoe on squats for Oly lifting
Thought I’d leave this here for everyone, especially thought @Angus Bradley would like this. Probably the most lucid argument I’ve ever seen Rip make (and I’m a huge Rip apologist). “I’ll go out on a limb here and say that Olympic lifters should probably learn to back squat with a low bar position, since it allows the use of heavier weights. After all, why do Olympic lifters do the back squat? It is not a contested lift. The front squat is another exercise anyway. The vertical back angle of the Olympic squat is not reproduced in the pull of either the snatch or the clean. It’s like trying to make the back squat into a slightly different version of the front squat. But that misses the point of the back squat. Olympic lifters squat to get their hips, legs, trunk, and back strong, like everybody else does.”

hey Angus, semi-related Q w/r/t programming sprint work — would you err on the side of consolidating stressors or spreading them out when programming sprints, deadlifts, and other hinges?

@Louis Mott honestly if you haven’t done Angus’ mentorship you oughta jump into the next round. talk about a kick up the arse! you’ll get way more value than just the content creation and business stuff, but even just being around other motivated coaches will be incredibly beneficial
