On Sundays we rest
Do you have a day or time of day dedicated to rest? There was a time when rest was not in my vocabulary. Having to be productive every minute of the day felt like I was being driven by a motor I wasn't controlling. That pesky, powerful, and protective nervous system is always operational. It reads the room before I do, it signals danger (newsflash it has little discernment), and survival is its one and only job. Feeling guilty for sitting down? BAM! The body gets up before I can reason with it to relax. Feel uncomfortable in the quiet and stillness? BAM! Rev that engine, which didn't take much, the system was standing by in low ready. I did quite a bit to recover from this hamster wheel of constant hypervigilence but intention and effort is still required. I just finished 12 straight days of work. Have you seen the mess with CA wildfires lately? I am beat to the socks but believe it or not it still requires mindfulness for me to rest. Sitting still is not natural for me. So effort I do because I've seen the benefit of rest. The mind gains clarity (unless I'm distracted by a screen) and the body powers down to recharge. When I add reflection and gratitude the brief resting moments feel like the RESET I didn't know I needed.

I've always said that working in a public safety role isn't a job; it's a calling. You're called to do this job. You're drawn in by your very nature and that is, at least for me, to help people. To be the calm when the world is in chaos. To be the light in the darkness. I lost sight of that, allowing a management team to poison my mind against the profession. I told myself I wouldn't bother with that level of law enforcement again, until someone told me that my "why" is precisely why I need to do it. So here I am. Working to get back to that level again. Because it's a calling. And just because a call ends, doesn't mean the world doesn't have your number on speed dial.
Who wrote this report!!!
I didn’t write this but I would have! What’s the most ridiculous thing you have put in a report??? 🤣🤣

"Subject approached officers, topless and covered in an unknown oily substance, armed with what appeared to be a makeshift melee weapon which consisted of a large purple sex toy duct taped to a tennis racket." Yep. I loved that job lol

To kick things off, please comment below introducing yourself. Let us know… #1 - Who are you, where are you from and if you want to add your agency that's cool too. #2 - What do you want to get out of being in this community? #3 - For fun what do you like to do? #4 - Drop a photo of you training or working. Here's mine: #1 - My name is Anthony Shefferly, I am a 16 year police officer in north east Indiana. #2 - What I want out of this community is to change the culture of First Responders when it comes to both physical and mental health. We are a group that is deteriorating by the minute and the time for action is now. This job is too important and the people that do the work are too important to allow us to simply rot and die. It's time to get strong and resilient. #3 - For fun I train...lifting weights, Jiu Jitsu, and heavy music are critical to life!!! lol #4... Here's one from SWAT training a few years back. Let's GET AFTER IT!!!

Hey, folks! How's it going? My name is Doug Campbell and it would appear that I am the lone Canuck in this group! Been in the field of security and law enforcement for the past 16ish years. Did 10 years as a Special Constable (sworn Peace Officer with police authority, just for a specific jurisdiction and without a firearm) in government housing, doing time as a Coach Officer, Acting Platoon Sergeant and a member of our Peer Support/Critical Incident Response Team, providing assistance to officers who were going through trauma. I moved on to work as an Enforcement Officer with a municipal transit agency and now work in Bylaw Enforcement (the Canadian equivalent of Code Enforcement). When not doing law enforce-y style work, I'm also a Reservist in the Royal Canadian Navy, where I am a Boatswain by trade. I joined this group to get some more insight on my plan to get back into the shit (I'm planning on applying to become a Police Constable in 2025). During the pandemic I dropped 60lbs, sadly some of it muscle so now I'm sorting my plan out to get down to about 220 and fucking solid. My professional goals include becoming a PC and completing the RCN's Naval Boarding Party qualification; NBP is essentially the SWAT team of the Navy! When I'm not working (ha!) I'm lifting weights, studying/teaching martial arts (I'm a Shokyu in Karate and a Blue Belt in BJJ), studying to complete a Bachelor degree in Public Safety and becoming a foster parent. I also have been known to dabble in music writing. Below is a mash up of me L - as a Special (the green epaulets were for mental health awareness month) T - as a Transit Enforcement Officer (the Santa hat is what happens when you make me work Christmas day!) and B - running tours aboard HMCS HAIDA, the fightingest ship in the history of the Royal Canadian Navy!! Lets fuckin' get some!!!

A Heroic Cook Book
Hey there folks! Looking for your recipes! What are some of the staples you go for? I'm looking for ideas for my meal plan. Factors I'm including are: - High protein (40-60g) - Relatively low calories (500-600 max kinda range) - Batchable! (I love to batch cook and freeze like, two weeks worth of meals at a time) That's it, really! I currently work from an office with access to a microwave but fully get that others may not have the same. So whether it needs heating or can be eaten from the patrol car, throw it down! Lets put together some excellent meal plans! I'm in cut mode so I'm good with lower calories but if you have a great bulk (or cheat???) meal idea, throw er in! Your body is the vehicle that drives you through life. Fill 'er with PREEEEEEMIUM!!!

One of the things I was thinking of doing was making a huge ass pile of high protein chili in a crock pot. Good stuff, like extra lean ground beef, black beans, tomatoes....scoop of protein powder? Hahaha that kinda thing. Couple scoops of that. A large crock pot would probably make at least a week or so of easy to reheat and go type of meals, particularly important when working in the Canadian winters. Also seen a recipe online for batch cooking chicken wraps. Simple ingredients...chicken for the protein, onions for taste, peppers for the veg and wrapped in a whole wheat flat bread, rolled and frozen. Again, a crock pot worth of chicken breast probably makes like, 10-14 wraps depending on how big your pot is.
