Running Shoes suggestions for Bunions
Hi Everyone, What’s the go-to pair of shoes for someone who has nasty bunions? Suggestions please.

I wouldn’t say I have “nasty” bunions lol but wide toe box shoes helped me especially in sports to keep the symptoms at bay. Barefoot shoes have been great for me to avoid flare ups while running or exercising in longer durations. Not sure if there’s a definitive answer for that tho, it may be more up to you and your foot to find the best solution suitable for you and your needs

@Abhishek Kumar yeah totally get that. from my experience, the shoes won’t have too much of an impact, but if that’s your main concern, the pediatrist may be able to help with the footwear. Def pay them a visit if you haven’t yet. I don’t think you can ever effectively “cure” bunions so it’s more about the combination of prevention efforts with the proper footwear that will yield the most benefit. I’ve been told there are inserts or orthotics that can help with this, but have never tried them. Hope you can find out what works for you tho as it may be a trial and error situation
Vertical jump training
Starting tomorrow, I will begin with the GPP plan from Angus. However, as I will soon shift my focus into vertical jump progression, I’m wondering if I should do additional plyos/jump training on top of the GPP. I seen that there’s always some plyos included, just don’t have any idea if it would be enough for my goals (never seriously trained in this manner before). I still want to be strength training, so I’m unsure if the GPP plus jump training will be too much and end up hindering the process. Anyone have experience in this or with Angus’ program to notice/ address these concerns?

@Luke Euerle makes sense, gonna keep that up during the hoop sessions and see how it turns out
When you consider the importance of IAP in Squats, Olifts… Is core training still useless?
@Angus and anyone interested: what’s your take on IAP (Intra Abdominal Pressure)? I’ve heard Angus say don’t do core training, train the core muscles through their range and function (back extensions, toes to bar, side flexion and torsion) But that won’t necessarily help you improve your ability to maintain IAP during your sets. As much as McGill is old school and hated these days, I think his point that core endurance is more important than core strength is very relevant in the context of maintaining IAP during a whole workout, whether it be SBD, Olifts, or even bodybuilding. Here a little experiment: do a “core brace” as your read this. Now touch your obliques, are they contracted? For me and many others, they are NOT! it requires to shift the focus away from the transverse abdominis (the muscle you THINK you should contract to “brace”), and only then can one have the obliques fully contracted. Yes, I and most of my clients can think we’re bracing while ACTUALLY having obliques relaxed. Therefore, I’m inclined to think that core training still has its place. What are your thoughts on this ? Looking forward to some good counter arguments or validation if you agree

@Angus Bradley what’s a good method to check and/or improve my bracing? I don’t think my bracing is terrible but as a newer lifter I’m having a hard time validating my brace as I’m unsure if I’m doing it properly.
Fitness small talk
Like this post if there are people in your life you can hardly discuss S&C with, because they’re too off the mark. I’m praying we can all have grace and patience for them🙏🏼🤣

Been on a mission to try and get my buddies locked in and come workout with me for the summer. Trying to get my parents into it too and what a pain that’s been lol. Definitely agree with leading by example and “inspiring” others tho, there’s still such a stigma within gym culture and actually TRYING and putting in effort/passion for the new people. I think my biggest pet peeve is when people automatically assume you want to be a bodybuilder just because you lift weights and disregard the fact that I may have different goals than other people. I have legit seen a total of just ONE person doing oly lifts at my local gym and it’s almost discouraging to know I’d be the odd one out when doing these types of movements/training for sport rather than aesthetic. All in due time I guess lol.

Exercise selection Q&A
Hope everyone is enjoying the gymnastics program that went out yesterday. Thought I’d do a Q&A regarding exercise selection or programming accessory exercises. Ask away!

what’s your take on separate “mobility” training? Do you feel it is necessary to do mobility focused workouts in addition to your regular routine?

@Angus Bradley not too concerned with the mobility personally, just wanted to know ur opinion more or less lol. Def agree with that tho, have seen a nice improvement in depth and range of motion since lifting consistently. Just kinda torn if I SHOULD be doing mobility or if I’m doing enough already, I’ll come back here if I ever try to get in to the splits tho lmao
