Here's something fun and nerdy I learned
So as most of you know I love science incredibly much - particularly human science. As I am on the learning journey with you guys as well, here are some things I learned from pitch anything to advance your pitching techniques.
For starters in your brain you have three different ways of perceiving something and in three different areas
- Crocodile Brain - Primitive, fight or flight (for you medicine people - activated your sympathetic nervous system)
- Mid Brain - searches for the meaning of things and relationships between safe and unsafe
- Neurocortex - analyzes complex problem solving
and here is what you dont want to do... hit the amygdala.. if you get fear or a bunch of questions at the end you created some sort of fear which is found in this part of the brain.
Now for some more advanced stuff. When you are pitching most people pitch in the way that is favorable to the neurocortex.. problem solving part of the brain.. however, the neurocortex takes in the information and directly sends it to the croc brain "primitive brain" because its a lot of information and natural insticts by humans... everything is automatically sent to the croc brain
Here is a real life example..
- You are walking to the bedroom and your friend jumps out and scares you (croc brain- fight or flight, strong emotions, first reaction this is DANGER!!)
- Then you step back and analayze is it your friend just wearing a clown mask or a stranger (mid brain- searches for the meaning of is this safe or unsafe)
- Then you step back and now youre calm because you now have analyzed its just your friend wearing a clown mask (Neurocortex- analyzes the problem through complex problem solving and analysis)
Now bringing it back to sales. When you are pitching your product or service and you mention strictly deliverables, or anything that isn't positive.... your brain will send the information from your neurocortex to croc brain as it recognizes that as fear. Now we want to send information to the croc brain but in a way that doesn't alarm it as danger.....
How can you do that Maddie..
thats a good question....
I will talk about this more on Sundays call and break down how to sell in a way that removes pushy sales tactics, and in a way were its just a conversation that aligns with your prospects brain psychology.
What are your thoughts on this?
