Is Fasting Right For You?
A few of us seem to be into intermittent fasting...
I actually used to coach people to fast (up to 72 hours at a time) when I worked as a health coach. BUT fasting is a very personal decision and practice and I don't want anybody to feel pressured.
So, here are some facts for those who might be thinking about getting started!
Fasting has been around for ages, used by people all over the world for health and healing. Today, it's become a powerful tool to boost energy, burn fat, and get our bodies into peak condition. But like any strategy, it’s got its pros and cons.
Let's break down the benefits and risks of fasting so you can make a bold, smart choice for your journey.
The Benefits of Fasting
  1. Sharper Focus: Fasting isn’t just about food; it’s about freeing up your mind too. When your body isn't busy digesting, you can think clearer and focus better. This means more energy for you to chase after your goals!
  2. Burn Fat Faster: When you fast, your body uses stored fat for fuel. That’s like tapping into your own energy reserves, giving you the power to slim down and feel stronger from the inside out.
  3. Balances Blood Sugar: Fastingcan help your body handle sugar better. This means more stable energy throughout the day and a lower risk of health issues like type 2 diabetes. Unless you already have diabetes, then please work with your doctor to decide if fasting is right for you.
  4. Body Renewal During fasting: your body gets to work cleaning up old cells and making new ones. It’s like giving yourself a fresh start, so you can stay fit, healthy, and ready for anything.
  5. Deeper Mind-Body Connection: Fasting teaches you to listen to your body’s true signals. It’s not just about hunger; it’s about understanding what your body really needs to feel its best.
The Risks of Fasting
  1. Might Mess with Eating Habits: If you're not careful, fasting could mess with your relationship with food. It’s easy to fall into cycles of over-eating or feeling guilty if you don’t keep a balanced approach.
  2. Lack of Nutrients: Going without food for too long can mean missing out on important nutrients. It’s key to make sure your meals are packed with all the good stuff your body needs when you do eat.
  3. Energy Ups and Downs: Not everyone feels great when they fast. Some people might feel tired or cranky, especially in the beginning. The trick is to listen to your body and know when to take a step back.
  4. Not for Everyone: Fasting isn’t safe for everyone, especially if you have certain health conditions. Always check with a healthcare provider or doctor before diving into it.
  5. Can Be Tough Socially: Fasting might make it tricky to join in on meals with friends and family. It’s important to think about how it fits into your social life and how it makes you feel.
Fasting isn’t a magic fix—it’s one tool in your toolkit for better health. It’s about finding what works best for you and your goals. The most important thing? Be kind to yourself. Your journey to health and energy is unique, and so are you.
Fasting isn’t about denying yourself; it’s about giving your body the space to reset and recharge. It’s a way to get in tune with what you need to feel strong, focused, and unstoppable.
