Foreign countries & entities involvement in US transportation
Is it concerning to anyone else the rate at with foreign entities are getting involved in the us trucking market? It's 9.1% of the US GDP and revenue that is going to these companies isn't being taxed in the united states. Also the security risk in foreign governments being able to gain location data and understand the most needed shipping lanes is a scary thought to me.

I'm not sure, I'll have to do some research and find out.
Illegal Freight
Have you ever had to work with Homeland Security, FBI, ATF, Police or any other Government agency in regards to "Suspect Freight" in your possession (Carrier or Warehouse)? Have you ever had the Dogs come through your warehouse, onto your terminal dock or into your truck/trailer looking for illegal contraband? When presented with a warrant, do you cooperate? I'm just so surprised to hear the professionals we work with from these agencies tell us how many people in Freight Transportation do NOT cooperate. The funniest thing is the last time we had one of these agencies visit our facility, I (The Owner) was working in Miami. lol I looked suspicious, until they found out I was there working on a Government contract. lol Its our position that its best to cooperate and do everything you can to help the authorities. Who are these people in Transportation Logistics that don't?

I've seen this happen with Avocado, Steel Pipe and other shipments from mexico. I wonder what happens if you don't know and get caught. I feel bad for those people.
What's this Group's general feeling on working with oversees Dispatchers?
Guys, I am in the Payments space. I am not a Broker. I have a Dispatching operation asking me to plug him in with active Freight Brokers. He supplies me with 2-3 Carrier accounts a week so I know he is legit. My question for the group is this. Who here works with Dispatchers to source capacity? Has it been a good or bad experience?

I have good relationships with a few overseas dispatchers. They can normally provide a cost effective solution for drivers and can save owner ops money over dispatch services in the US. As long as it an owner opp and they have a year of service i'll work with them. I don't think he is in this group, but a good person to talk to word be Alek Bates he was a dispatcher from Serbia and not runs the carrier side for a us brokerage from Serbia.

@Steven Tittle Interesting thought, I think in europe its alot more customer driven than here. I think most companies have direct customers and because the country areas are so small I bet brokers and dispatchers are much less needed. IDK just my thoughts.
Factoring
I’ve been in business 12 years and have never factored anything. Those that do Factor What is the biggest motivator for you? Cash Flow? Collections? Your Credit? Anything else? Is it worth the percentage you pay out and that’s not hitting your books as part of your profit?

When I started a brokerage I used factoring for two reasons 1.) carrier trusted that they would get paid and i didn't have to pay carriers up front. 2.) Cashflow is king and I started it with $1800 not an ideal situation. My rate was 1.6% and that was actually really easy to just add into quotes.
Leasing Truck Equipment
When is Leasing Trucks (Penske/Ryder etc) as a Carrier Beneficial? For years I have had at least 1 long term (3 year) lease on a Truck with Penske. I also own many Trucks and Vans etc so why do I also Lease? Long Term Lease customers get discounting off of short term rental (term or trip) equipment. Gateway OT then can expand or contract our fleet as needed. The benefit is discounting and localized billing on a nationwide account. So here is my story as an example. We have run a National Government/Military account since 2018. We still service this contract. When we rent equipment anywhere in the United States we are billed at a discount AND at our local Arizona rate. Every time I’m in Hawaii or Alaska or some high rent zone for renting equipment to move our product around the rental people say the same thing every time! “Why don’t you just steel this equipment!” “You practically are getting this for free” In Arizona you generally can rent a 26’ box truck for about $100 a day and .78 a mile In Hawaii it’s much more expensive like $200 a day $2.00 a mile. When I rent in Hawaii because they bill me the Arizona rate plus a large discount for being a National leasing customer I drive out of their location paying $65 a day and .19 a mile! lol To them it’s mind blowing. Because we perform final mile deliveries in all 50 states and territories for the Government having this kind of buying power operationally is a great advantage. Even when Gateway gets trucks in New York, LA, Chicago etc where rates are higher than in Arizona and then add in our discount the person behind the counter always makes a phone call. “Is this right? This can’t be right? We giving this truck to them at this price? Ok” 😂 😝 😆 So is leasing trucks (long term) more expensive than owning? Absolutely, but if you know that you are going to need to rent or lease a lot of equipment (we rent 100s of trucks each year) all across America then a long term lease agreement with a rental discount plan is a great option.

That's incredibly smart man! Thanks for sharing this info. I might have to lease a truck on our asset side.
