What's this Group's general feeling on working with oversees Dispatchers?
Guys, I am in the Payments space. I am not a Broker. I have a Dispatching operation asking me to plug him in with active Freight Brokers. He supplies me with 2-3 Carrier accounts a week so I know he is legit. My question for the group is this. Who here works with Dispatchers to source capacity? Has it been a good or bad experience?

It's like having a spark plug in your pocket. 95% of the time, it's there to do harm.
Freight rates
In the courses i took in the beginning of my broker business, i heard so many coaches speak of freight calculators they created to assist them. I have also watched many episodes of other freight brokers that use DAT and Truck Stop tools. What is your take on freight calculators? Is there really a more simplified process to quote freight with shippers? I have tried both processes and was under bid by another broker.

I like the term paper rates by @Bill Robinson. Paper rates get you in the door, then you will have to eat some losses until you get better knowledge of the lane. Then, when you have a confident understanding of the local market and the lanes, you will carry that with you in your negotiations with shippers. Then you may start getting results when you ask for higher rates. When you have a chance, try to track the life of that load you lost on the load boards. You'll be surprised how many times the load you lost goes back to bid due to failure to cover.

@Lisa Taylor You're welcome! There's more (to go above and beyond): -Use the LaneMakers tool on DAT. -Call carriers WITHOUT the pressure of needing to book a load. Ask them about their lanes, what product they move, how they pay their drivers, their struggles. They will open up more than you think. -Every single carrier I've met in person becomes crazy excited to show me their operation. They're the ones you call when coming through for the client is a matter of capacity, not rate.
What is your opinion on this?
My sales guy sends me a phone number to a potential client. He told me to give her a call since she has questions about the equipments we have. I didn’t do any research who that customer was and gave them a call on the spot. While the lady is talking to me and telling me about her business, the freight sounds very familiar to me. I asked her for her business name and to find out my trucks pick up loads at her location often. I asked her who is her broker and she told me xyz brokerage. I told her I am very sorry but I can not work with her since I work with that broker daily. I finished my conversation with “ I have been in this business for a while and I have built a name for myself. Unfortunately I can’t backstab the xyz brokerage since I have a great relationship with that broker” she was very happy and surprised with me. What would you guys have done if you were a carrier?

Probably the same as you. It's a small world, and people will always remember, even if they pretend not to. Now, you don't have to be mother theresa here. Engineer a way for that broker to get wind this interaction occurred, and then guilt trip them into a slightly better rate for you. Ensure no service failures. If I found out my carrier did this, they'd have a good chance to get an extra $50-100 out of me per load, depending on the mileage of course.

We just transitioned to Salesdash CRM and we're thrilled about it. Simple to set up, focused on freight brokerage out-of-the-box, and they handle all the backend stuff for email automation. We've never had a CRM that includes lane and carrier data (you do have to feed it yourself), but now that we do, the potential for focused sales and operational efficiency goes through the roof.
