Breath Hold Times (September 8th to September 15th)
Post all your Breath Hold Times here Let's go & double your breath hold! ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ Step 1: Take an inhale, start your stopwatch & hold your breath. Step 2: Post your time here so you can get feedback and points Step 3: Head on over to the Classroom & follow the instructions Already participated last week, or last month? No worries, you can post and do it as much as you want (as a matter of fact, we'd only encourage it ๐Ÿ˜Ž) And if you done the challenge once (or twice), feel free to shake it up a little bit. Do exhale breath holds only for a week, or take it easy and do 1-2 breath holds a day without going for a max. Variety is the spice of life. Get to level 4 in the Leaderboards, and you unlock the Superhuman Lungs training protocol (who doesn't want to have lungs like the Human Dolphin?) Post all seven days, and you may be the lucky winner of the Breath Hold Mastery course ๐Ÿ˜Ž And last (but not least) a little shout out to last weeks top 10 leaderboard: @Curro Cachinero @Denis Blanchard @David Broberg Wilby @Tina Mosner @Mir Jam @Kristopher Pensenti @Abdou Aziz @Javier Quappe @Inese Rieta @Kimmo Parkkonen

@Natalia Gijsbers If you say you took a full lung inhale and felt uncomfortable โ€“ then I wonder if you took a max inhale โ€“ it should only be about an 80% inhale โ€“ Stig mention this somewhere and he also said a max inhale put pressure on your heart โ€“ an easy way to do this is to take a max inhale and then start the clock and immediately let out a teaspoon of air to release some of the pressure to get the comfortable feeling back - then it will be easier to relax. The minute rest plus the 10 breaths with resistance and 3 warm up breaths โ€“ which will take about 2 minutes โ€“ that is 3 minutes rest - sounds about right โ€“ you can even push this to 4 minutes. I think if you can do more than a minute dive on exhale you are ready for a 2 minute dive on inhale โ€“ good luck.

@Curro Cachinero My guess is that the spike to 106 was 1or 2 error readings โ€“ canโ€™t think that your heart will spike like that and if it does I think the heart monitor will show a few more readings to track the change in the heart rate.

@David Broberg Wilby If you are interested in SpO2 โ€“ remember the response is slow and it will only give a representative reading about 20 seconds after you end your dive โ€“ then it is best to switch it on if you think you are reaching the end of your dive.

Comparison of 2 very similar ~4 min dives โ€“ top graph with normal breath hold and bottom with icepack wrapped in wet towel on my face showing dive reflex after 1:12 seconds.
Breath Hold Times - July (Post ALL Times here)
The first monthly Breath Hold Time thread - with many more to come. Post your daily breath hold times & share your experiences here. Encourage & congratulate others - we will all be dolphins by the end of the month! We'll pick a monthly winner at random who will win a lucky prize (woo-hoo!). It's not based on how high you score (because... it's YOUR personal journey - so it does not matter if you hold only for a minute and someone else for 3 minutes).

@Greg Vontz I will try and answer this โ€“ what do you mean by snake breath - as I understand it the snake breathing exercise with the elastic band is to strengthen the chest muscles and give it explosive power โ€“ this will help to increase lung volume โ€“ this will improve your spearfishing without the danger that it will affect CO2 buildup. From Google: We suggest that during breath holding with face immersion high lung volume acts directly within the brainstem to actively delay the attainment of the physiological breaking point, rather than acting indirectly as a sink to produce a slower build-up of PCO2.

I am a 73 years old pensioner - was a very keen snorkel diver when I was in my 30's and 40's and still snorkel dive during the summer months.
