Rucking
Hi all, I’m curious to know if anyone has been Rucking? If so, do you do it as an exercise or on recovery days? If done with not a lot of weight and not for a long time, will it still effect the recovery after a workout day? I’d like to add some weight to my evening walks but don’t want to harm my recovery, so trying to understand how I can incorporate it the best way.

I’ve done rucking as a form of exercise before. I don’t as much anymore, as I spend more time strength training in the gym than I do rucking. Your best bet is to use a sturdy backpack that has a hip/waist band. This will help rest the weight more on your hips than your shoulders, and will make the weight more comfortable in the long run. A lot of people will recommend no more than a 1/3 of your body weight. A good place to start is 10-15%, and then slowly increase over time. Finally, when rucking, you should ideally move at a faster pace. This isn’t a leisurely walk. Go as fast as you can tolerate while carrying the weight on your back without running. I would recommend trying to increase your pace overall before adding weight to the pack. It will help with your longevity with the exercise. Let me know if you have any other questions.

@Milka Bignoux CNS is an acronym for “central nervous system”. Any sort of heavy weight can stimulate the CNS, and can be heavily taxing on the body.

Small changes
Today I hopped on the scale for the fun of it. lol. It’s a scale that measures your body fat, your BMI, your lean body mass etc. well even though the weight is the same two pounds up or down the BMI and BMR have dropped by. .03. Not much, but it was nice to see those numbers going down. I call that a WIN 🎉🎊
