The rise of students taking a "gap year" in their education has always intrigued me. For those of you that don't know, a gap year is a set period of time to "pause" your educational pursuits in exchange for seeking other opportunity, travel, work, etc. I am getting ready to begin a gap year as I just finished my Winter term of university. I am one of those students who has "changed" what they're studying about 20 times in 2 years, because I'm not sure what I want to do. I began with Biology and now I am in general Business, hoping to narrow it down soon to be more specific. I am going to take this opportunity to challenge myself and become more resourceful and independent. I have a couple projects that I will be working tirelessly on, and I hope to share my experiences with that soon. My questions for the students and younger people here are; How do you view students taking a gap year? What do you believe are the potential benefits and downsides? If you had/have the opportunity to take a year away from work/school, how would you spend it?
