This post was so helpful and removed some of our mental load this morning. It's the little things! 😆 Thanks Zach!
Flowers
Alright, here’s a fun one… one partner brings home flowers for the other- delightful! After a while, the flowers die and need to be tossed out. Who is responsible for the tossing- the gift giver (owning the mental load of tossing the flowers when they’re done is part of the gift) or the recipient (who has received a gift and is now responsible for it)? 😆💐

It really depends on the dynamics of the relationship and how you both approach shared responsibilities. In many cases, the recipient might be expected to handle the disposal since they’re the ones directly interacting with the flowers. However, if the flowers were given as a thoughtful gesture, it might be kind for the giver to take responsibility for their disposal, especially if it’s part of the mental load they’ve taken on. It can be helpful to communicate openly about these little responsibilities. Maybe the giver could offer to help with the task, or the recipient could gently mention if they’d appreciate some support with it. Ultimately, finding a balance that works for both partners is key (and VERBAL communication. In our situation, hubby usually asks me if I want him to dispose of them for me.
