I learnt the hard way and didn’t rest and ended up being not 100% for a month or more. I should have upped my calories to maintenance and rested.
Intrinsic motivation / discipline
I have several friends who have come to me for fitness advice, always prefacing it with "I want to get in shape...I just wish I had your discipline!" Then they tell me they'll workout more, they're committed this time....only to fall off the wagon after a few weeks. Do you feel some people confuse discipline with motivation or use them interchangeably? I am not always motivated to train, but it's a habit and a priority. How do you convey that and how do you encourage people to stick with it until that habit/discipline forms?

It took me a long time to make the changes. I joined the gym in August last year but didn’t really have the time or energy to focus on my goals. I had time in December so made the changes gradually. I had to learn to be patient and that the results wouldn’t happen as fast as I wanted. I also set my goal to be consistent rather than a number on the scale. I also got lots of help.
Carb intake - pre or post training ?
Question / opinion: Carbs post or pre ? I train after work. And then rush home eat meal and time to prep for bed. Because of the time frame - any suggestions?

@Siddharth Singh thanks, yeah as i train at 6pm I would have had lunch at around 2pm. I’m thinking I could move my morning tea meal that has carbs to the afternoon before the workout and see if makes any differences.
Potatoes or Oats as a source for carbs
What do you guys think is a better alternative for carbs? Potatoes or Oats? I personally found potatoes to be more nutrient dense and lighter than oats!

Interesting, thanks for the info. I’ve been eating oats and rice in my cut, rice mainly because it doesn’t have any other macros so is easy to count and I just freeze it in 100g bags. I’m down to 1200 calories for the next couple of weeks, I might give potato’s ago for satiety.
Saunas?
@Darian Bates what’s your opinion on saunas for fat loss, recovery and anti-aging? Thanks 🤩

We do the sauna and float at city cave every now and then. Just for a bit of relaxation and something to do together.
