Summer Break Announcement ๐Ÿ“ฃ
Hello all! I hope you are enjoying the start of summer. I know many of us have summer plans, so things will naturally be quieter here. Iโ€™ve decided to take a summer break myself from Skool to figure out how best to run this community. During this time, everything will be read-only, and you will not be able to comment, post, or chat. In the meantime, we can connect through my newsletter, on Instagram @suziichan or email me at suzii@suziichan.com. SUZII

Summer Break Announcement ๐Ÿ“ฃ

Wake up to you first, then the world
Especially on a Monday, it's easy to forget who we are and why we're here. It's not because we don't love ourselves or what we do, but simply because there are too many distractions in our lives. And these distractions show no signs of stopping! In fact, you and I are creating tools, products, and businesses that contribute to these distractions, even with the best of intentions. I'm not trying to make you feel bad about any of it. Instead, I'm reminding you that starting the day by remembering all of who you are is the key to staying true to yourself and being more authentic. When you do that, both you and the world benefit! Here are five simple steps for a better morning routine to keep your day flowing smoothly: 1. **Start with a slow awakening:** Take the time to slowly awaken to yourself. Move, breathe, and come back to your body. These few minutes can work wonders for your brain and help you avoid feeling the need to switch on immediately. 2. **Delay your to-think list:** Yes, you read that right. Stop your brain from running through your day, thinking about what you have to get done and where you have to be. There will be time for that, just not in the first few minutes after waking up. 3. **Dare to Dopamine fast:** Stay away from technology, phones, TVs, or radios. Try it for half an hour at first and gradually work your way up to 2 or 3 hours. 4. **Bonus: Try meditation:** I've stopped preaching about meditation, journaling, or even sketching as the must-do morning activities. The truth is, anything can work, and you don't have to do any of it. It's easy to become fixated or dogmatic about specific tools and routines. Don't let that happen. Let yourself be and go with the flow. Currently, I'm back to guided meditation. It's easy to follow, not too deep or overly spiritual, and I find it to be the perfect entryway into my awakened self. What are some of your tools for starting the day right? https://open.spotify.com/episode/6XZLwQ8YnUneoziOoHhqsv?si=HvDxCzoHQzCHiNI0Dq0hkQ

We Chilled & Created...
Fresh from the latest Oodles of Doodles session, and wow, what a treat it was! Today, I had the joy of playing and creating with @Ricardo Yepes , an incredible storyteller and 3D artist from Colombia who also speaks Mandarin. Talk about a unique combination! We let the session guide us, turning up the music and diving into the flow of creativity. Our conversation naturally drifted to the powerful idea of simply allowing ourselves to be. It was a beautiful reminder of the magic that happens when we let go and embrace the moment. Join us next timeโ€”you won't want to miss the inspiration and connection! Check out the upcoming sessions: https://www.skool.com/terrible-art-club-5059/calendar My piece from today is about the unique blooms that emerge when we allow all of ourselves to be.

Community Work is Soul-Filled Work!
This morning, I had the pleasure of hosting a creative workshop for young moms, providing them with a chance to reconnect with themselves and explore their creativity in a fun, relaxing environment. We dived into finger watercolor painting and 3D paper crafts, adding a unique dimension to our artistic exploration. It was more than just making art; it was about connecting with their inner child, practicing self-permission, and discovering deep connections through light-hearted activities. Art has this incredible way of breaking down barriers and fostering a sense of community. The Creative expression on paper translates to creative confidence in every aspect of life. If you're interested in doing a workshop like this, comment with a โ€œ๐ŸŒนโ€ below.

First Live Creative Conversation 10am EST
I'm getting excited about exploring new territories with some play! In creating this community, I wanted to build a space where I can find shelter, encouragement, cheerleading, celebration, connection, and the purity of existence. It's a lonely opinion and approach, especially in the world of Skool games and wins. I'm standing by it and I thank each of you for being here with me. Part of this community dream is to be a part of the creative conversation around art and life. I was going to keep the special guest a surprise, but I can't help but share: it's @Goose Dunlavey , the one and only rainbow-tastic force injecting so much color into the blah-blah business space! So come and join us for the live conversation where we will spin a wheel for a topic and just flow from there! Are you excited?!

Creativity activates Creativity
If you're willing to take the first step, the next one will reveal itself as you go! I'm looking forward to doodling together tomorrow! Gather your materials, a pen and some paper. Honestly, whatever you've got is good! Here are some ideas: 1. Gel pens: I love them. The ease of the pen tip gliding on paper makes it a luxurious experience! 2. Sharpie or any markers: It's smooth and familiar! 3. Watercolor: so many colors, so so fun!! I've been in a black and white phase ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿค This doodle is a continuation from last night. I added my vision of affirmations to the background and visualize them as I doodle on the rest of the details. It's another reason to use doodling as an alternative to meditation. Would you try this?

Doodling in bedโ€ฆ
Hey Soulmatesโœจ, let's talk about self-care and creativity! @Sebastian Holle reminded me of something important to be shared. Many of us find meditation challenging, especially when life gets busy. You are not alone and it is not that easy! But here's an alternative: doodling. Doodling isn't just about drawing; it's a form of self-expression and a way to connect with our inner selves. It's like giving ourselves a moment of compassion and creativity wrapped into one! Here's a simple doodling guide: 1. If you have an idea, sketch it out, even if it's not perfect. Remember, it's not about perfection! 2. If you're not sure what to draw, let your pen wander freely. This is what I call 'taking your line for a walk.' 3. If you're feeling bold, create something entirely new! Follow whatever you feel or think of in the moment. Tonight, I doodled some flowers in heart shapes, and it felt amazing. Just a minute or two can make a difference. I'm sharing this because it's important to practice affirming that the result doesnโ€™t matter as much as the act of doing it! I know we're doodling together on Wednesday, but feel free to share yours if you want to!

Slow Sunday Meditation
Something from my 11yr old
My older son is an old wise soul with a very particular sense of humor. Reading is one of his superpowers! This week, he has been sharing a joke of sorts that he learned from somewhere, which I thought was pretty witty and insightful: '...reading a book is looking at a dead tree and hallucinating.' It was repeated so many times that it totally got into my head, and I started thinking about drawing. So, this is what I came up with: '...if reading a book is looking at a dead tree and hallucinating, then drawing is like bringing a dead tree back and dancing freely with its shadow.' In adulthood, drawing is often seen as either a profession or child's play. But if we give ourselves a chance, our bodies will remember what to do with a pencil and paper; they will want to move it. Our job is just to show up in front of the paper and the pen... that's it. Everything else outside of that... is excess.

You can do it Anywhere, Anytime!
It's a no-brainer. You literally can do it anywhere, at anytime. It keeps you in the moment. To name a few.. This was me at brunch, doodling on the paper table top with the crayon the waitress given my kid. It's now an instinct to just pick up anything and just doodle... The slowing down, the basic of using a drawing instrument, the curiosity it naturally opens... What came through prominent this morning was the call to PLAY... The freedom, the fluidity, the ease, and the flow of it all... When we come from the space of play, then we let down more of the guard that resistance has built up...we let loose of the judgment that is ever present... Because the unconscious you is too focused on enjoying the peaceful state of being... Don't forget, we'll be putting this playful energy into action next Wednesday during our 'Oodles of Doodles' session. But the real question though is where else have done it before? ๐Ÿคซ

Community Matters
How a 20-Something YouTuber and an E.T. Channeler Connect
Yes, you read that right! I wrote about a young adult and a man who channels extraterrestrial beings (ET). I didn't intentionally seek to follow either of them. I came across the YouTuber through my kids and husband, and I discovered the ET channeler through doom scroll ๐Ÿค“. The YouTuber's content showcases his everyday life, such as getting coffee, skateboarding, and going on dates with his girlfriend. However, he also does more extreme things like 30-day bucket list challenges, meeting the world's tallest and shortest people, and even hiding in his roommate's closet for three days as a prank. ๐Ÿคฏ The ET channeler, on the other hand, answers questions about life, purpose, and various other topics that people ask him. There seem to be no limits to the topics they cover. The YouTuber's life wasn't always this exciting. He was once broke, depressed, and living in his grandmother's basement. Despite grinding away at YouTube every day, he wasn't gaining much traction. What connected the YouTuber and the ET channeler was their emphasis on a particular concept that became prominent during the YouTuber's lowest point: DO WHAT EXCITES!!! This motto is central to the YouTuber's life (and is now also his brand, which he sells merch for). Simply put, he lives by this motto, choosing what excites him, whether he has two million options or just two. The ET channeler's "excitement formula" includes five steps: 1. Follow what excites you in the moment. 2. Do your best and push your limits. 3. Act without expecting a specific outcome. 4. Stay positive, no matter what. 5. Reflect on your beliefs and let go of fear-based ones. In general, we tend to complicate things unnecessarily, including myself. So, let's start simplifying things. Whatever choice you face today, let excitement guide you every step of the way. At the end of the day, reflect on how your day was driven by excitement. PS. If you're interested in learning more about these individuals, please comment below, and I'll share their names with you.

Come and Get Some Doodles!!
Do you believe you are an artist?
There is a certain answer to it, but I bet you will argue with it! As you might expect, I will surely push back because you already told me the answer... You have, even if we hadn't actually connected with one another. Even if you don't practice any sort of art or haven't in a long, long time... How? Well, you are here in this community with all of us, right? There is something within you that resonates with being an artist! Otherwise, you simply wouldn't have joined or would have already opted out. Why am I hammering this point so hard? Because I think claiming yourself as an artist is a pretty sure way to connect to your soul or find one. Okay, can you claim this? Claim that you are absolutely an artist? Because this is absolute crucial before we can move to the next step! If you still cannot, that's ok! We are in this together, share below the challenge your brain is presenting you, as it shows up!

Your first homework assignment!
This is your Gallery
@Maia Beatty reminded me of one of the most powerful practices for unleashing your inner artist! Itโ€™s not a new concept. In fact, there is a whole book with that exact title. Yet, it is still severely overlooked and underused! This missed opportunity can lead to feelings of fraud or stagnation in your creative journey. Itโ€™s so simple you might not even think to do it. So far, itโ€™s one of our most impactful practices - and it is RIGHT UNDER YOUR NOSE. If youโ€™ve followed my Instagram, youโ€™ll know I regularly practice this shamelessly. Show or display your work! There are multiple levels to it; Iโ€™ll share 3 here: 1. Tape your creation to the wall. 2. Show your creation to another human being in person. 3. Take a picture of your creation and post it here in the memberโ€™s gallery. If you can manage all 3, you will see your creative confidence rise almost instantly. Before your brain comes up with any outs, Itโ€™s working. Austin Kleon wrote it for us for a reason. It speaks to the soul. So itโ€™s time to unleash the inner artist. P.S. I know itโ€™s easier to cheer for other peopleโ€™s work than to show our own, so letโ€™s us be each otherโ€™s cheerleaders! Iโ€™ll be happy to go first and I nominate @Maia Beatty to post yours here and the nominate another member. How do you feel about this challenge?
