The latest podcasting industry report reveals some eye-opening statistics:
Key Findings:
- Total Podcasts: There are 2,743,850 podcasts in existence.
- Active Podcasts: Only 381,197 of these are currently active, meaning they've released an episode in the past 90 days.
- Established Podcasts: A mere 34,913 podcasts are considered "established," accounting for 95% of total podcast listenership. Established podcasts are defined as those with over 100 episodes that have shown continuous improvement.
- Decline in Podcasts Reaching 100 Episodes: The percentage of podcasts reaching the 100-episode milestone has decreased from 6.52% to 4.80% in the last month, indicating that 47,194 fewer podcasters are achieving this benchmark.
Implications:
If you're an independent podcaster with a clear plan to produce 100 episodes and a strategy for continuous improvement, you're entering a space with minimal competition. This commitment positions you to succeed in the podcasting industry.
