Why Most Will Never Get in Shape (And How You Can Break the Cycle)
There always seems to be one common theme around the thousands of transformations I have witnessed over the last two (and a bit) decades.
There are patterns of success and patterns of failure.
Think about it for a second:
It’s the same trainer, giving the same advice to potentially achieve the same result for everyone—optimal body composition, health, and vitality.
These are the only two common denominators behind both the successes and the failures: trainer and philosophy.
What seems to differentiate those who do from those who don’t is not the coach or his message, but the actual recipient of the information.
Why do some succeed while others don’t?
Here it is for you, and it’s so simple:
The reason why most people will never get in the best shape of their life is because their organisation is extremely poor.
They let life beat them up.
They become reactive to their daily circumstances, not proactive.
Rather than being the cause of their own reality, they resort to being at the effect of it.
They never took the time to become the pilot of their life, only a passenger in their own body.
If you truly want to change your body, your health, and your life, you need to become assertive.
You must become deliberate with your day-to-day actions.
You need to plan ahead for what, when, and how much you’re going to eat, where you will fit in your weekly workouts, and how you’ll get your daily steps in.
No ifs, no buts.
You need to know what time you MUST get to bed each night, not let life’s circumstances and poor habits dictate that for you.
You need to know when to disconnect your relationship with your phone each day.
Are you tracking your training, your steps, your sleep, the screen time on your phone each day?
The main reason why most people will never get in shape is because they don’t take the time to organise their life.
Most people look at getting in shape as swimming upstream in a river.
They never truly took the time to understand why they want to achieve the goal in the first place.
What will it mean to them?
How will their life change for the better?
They have never scrutinised their story to understand what prevents them from achieving their goal in the first place.
You’ve wanted to lose 10kg for the last decade—really?
What’s taken you so long?
What’s stopped you in the past?
Why aren’t you there yet?
Would you let your kids take that same time to finish off their secondary schooling?
Life demands that you make measurable progress in a reasonable time—and ten years is too long!
Most people who fail at the weight loss game don’t view themselves as athletes.
They still see themselves as someone who’s overweight and struggles with their eating habits or succumbs to food when life gets stressful.
All the successes I have witnessed never saw themselves as overweight. They saw themselves as athletes and acted in accordance with what athletes think, say, and do each day.
They never get pushed around by life; they use life as an opportunity to recreate themselves anew each day.
They don’t blame their social events for not getting started:
“I’ll do it after this birthday, holiday, or weekend away. Maybe I’ll just start from Monday.”
Stop!
Have you any idea how little time you have on this earth?
Every day you delay is one less day you get to experience the best version of yourself.
If this does not bring a sense of urgency for change, then it’s best to just admit that it will never happen for you, and that’s ok.
Please don’t delude yourself into thinking that you have all the time in the world—you’ve had ten years to get this done!
You don’t!
So, where do you go from here?
You take control.
You make a decision today that you’re not going to let life continue to run the show.
This is your time and it’s now!
You have everything you need to succeed—you just need to step up and organise your life to match your goals.
Remember, you don’t have to be perfect, but you do have to be consistent.
Every small step forward counts.
When you choose to take ownership of your actions, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve.
Your transformation starts the moment you decide to be proactive, not reactive, and create the habits of success.
Don’t wait for the “right time”—make this the time that changes everything.
You’ve got this!
