DIY Shower Steamer Recipe
Courtesy of Holistic American Health Academy, member Lori Grande Everyone is getting sick these days. So here is a recipe for an all natural shower steamer, free of any toxic ingredients which you can feel good about inhaling. 1/4 cup natural baking soda 1/4 cup citric acid (Millard brand on Amazon) this is found naturally in citrus fruit, such as lemons and limes, which is safe. 3 tbsp, epsom salt 1 tbsp, organic cornstarch 1 tbsp castor oil, hexine, free cold pressed and organic. 50 to 60 drops of an essential oil like eucalyptus, peppermint, geranium, lavender or a mixture of a few. In a glass mixing bowl, combine all of the dry ingredients with your hands, you can wear a glove. Crush any lumps that might be in the bowl. Add the essential oils you will be using and castor oil and mix well with your hands until the mixture resembles wet sand. If the mixture is too dry, then use a fine mist. Spray bottle filled with witch hazel to moisten the mixture, only do 2 sprays at a time to avoid getting it too moist. Once you can squeeze the shower steamer mixture into a clump that holds its shape It's done. Immediately press the mixture into any mold you would like, pressing firmly. Let it air dry for 24 hours before unmolding and using. Store these in an airtight container like a glass Mason. Jar away from heat and moisture. This recipe makes seven shower steamers. If you would like, you can also use a mini muffin mold to make more quantity. Enjoy!

[ARTICLE] Tea Bags Release Millions of Microplastics When Brewed
Shared by Holistic American Health Academy member, Michele Harris. Shop Culinary Loose Leaf Teas Polymer tea bags release billions of micro- and nanoplastics, which can enter human cells, posing potential health risks. A UAB research has characterised in detail how polymer-based commercial tea bags release millions of nanoplastics and microplastics when infused. The study shows for the first time the capacity of these particles to be absorbed by human intestinal cells, and are thus able to reach the bloodstream and spread throughout the body. Plastic waste pollution represents a critical environmental challenge with increasing implications for the well-being and health of future generations. Food packaging is a major source of micro and nanoplastic (MNPLs) contamination and inhalation and ingestion is the main route of human exposure. A study by the Mutagenesis Group of the UAB Department of Genetics and Microbiology has successfully obtained and characterised micro and nanoplastics derived from several types of commercially available tea bags. The UAB researchers observed that when these tea bags are used to prepare an infusion, huge amounts of nano-sized particles and nanofilamentous structures are released, which is an important source of exposure to MNPLs. The tea bags used for the research were made from the polymers nylon-6, polypropylene and cellulose. The study shows that, when brewing tea, polypropylene releases approximately 1.2 billion particles per milliliter, with an average size of 136.7 nanometres; cellulose releases about 135 million particles per milliliter, with an average size of 244 nanometres; while nylon-6 releases 8.18 million particles per milliliter, with an average size of 138.4 nanometres. To characterise the different types of particles present in the infusion, a set of advanced analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), infrared spectroscopy (ATR-FTIR), dynamic light scattering (DLS), laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV), and nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) were used. “We have managed to innovatively characterise these pollutants with a set of cutting-edge techniques, which is a very important tool to advance research on their possible impacts on human health,” remarks UAB researcher Alba Garcia.

Let's delve into the details! The Science of Chewing Chewing, or mastication, is the first step in the digestive process. It involves breaking down food into smaller, manageable pieces, which aids in digestion and nutrient absorption. The act of chewing is so important that it has direct implications for our overall health. How Much Should You Chew? While there isn’t a definitive number of chews per bite that applies to everyone, nutritionists often recommend chewing food between 20 to 30 times per mouthful. Here’s why: 1. Breaking Down Food: Chewing thoroughly breaks down food into smaller particles, making it easier for enzymes and stomach acids to digest it further. Happy Friday, Holistic Family! This week is short and sweet...literally. This is a great recipe to do a cooking lesson with kids for a healthy breakfast or snack! And as usual, these little bites of goodness come from our Faith in Farms Recipe Club, which you can find, here. ** Air-Fryer Blueberry Bagel Bites ** ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour ½ cup (120g) vanilla coconut yogurt ¼ cup (35g) frozen blueberries What you need to do: 1. Heat the Air Fryer to 350°F (180°C). 2. Combine the flour, coconut yogurt and blueberries in a bowl, and roll into 4 even-sized balls. 3. [ARTICLE] Why Sun Exposure is Not Responsible for the Increase in Melanoma
This is a great article shared by Holistic American Health Academy member, Josh Beard about sun exposure and Melanoma. Enjoy! ------------- I have written several blogs making this melanoma case: not only is this deadly cancer not caused by sun exposure, but habitual, or regular, sun exposure has a protective effect against the disease. This blog will serve to reinforce and review the reasoning behind those conclusions. A friend sent me a scientific paper[1] that I had forgotten or missed—a paper by Dr. Veronique Bataille that brought out several supportive points about how sun exposure protects against the disease. Here are a few of the salient ideas from the paper: The increase in melanoma is mostly seen for the thin types, which can’t be attributed to sun exposure but to increasing screening over the last 20 years. The fact is, that incidence appears to increase as the number of dermatologists and public health campaigns also increase. But the increase in melanoma is not real. This idea is perfectly plausible; when more dermatologists are available, and the public is driven to them by health campaigns more melanomas are found. Many “first-stage” or thin “thin” melanomas are discovered and counted that would not have been found in previous decades. This causes numbers to be highly inflated compared to the days when there were fewer dermatologists and fewer public health campaigns. Comment: Another fact was not mentioned in the paper: Stunningly, a worldwide study of melanoma diagnosis and accuracy, published in the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) showed that most diagnoses were incorrect.[2] Approximately 44 different authors from many different clinics and countries, including the US, contributed to the report. They made an accuracy-in-detection analysis based on the actual number of melanomas that were excised during a period of ten years, compared with the number that really needed to be excised. Many clinics in different countries were involved in assessing the numbers. The AAD research showed that only about 3.5% of diagnoses in non-specialized clinics, and 14.7% in specialized clinics, resulted in actually being melanoma. From this information, it is evident that many melanoma surgeries are bogus and may inflate the incidence of this deadly skin cancer.

Is Walking Enough To Hit Your Health Goals?
From Holistic American Health Academy Member, Missy Anderson Many people believe that walking is enough to meet their exercise needs. And while walking is far better than being sedentary (I’ll never discourage 10,000 steps a day!), it might not be enough to truly achieve the health goals you’re aiming for. Here’s the truth: If you’re not hitting 10,000 steps a day (over 5 miles), you may be overestimating how much exercise you’re getting. Walking alone doesn’t consistently elevate your heart rate, which is essential for burning fat and improving cardiovascular health. Walking won’t help you build muscle,which is critical for metabolism, strength, and injury prevention. Most lab reports I see reveal that many adults aren’t getting nearly enough exercise to meet their body’s needs. So, what should you focus on instead? Get your heart rate up. Your fat-burning zone is where the magic happens. Use a smartwatch or fitness tracker to monitor your heart rate and aim to hit this zone consistently. Build muscle. Running or walking alone won’t do this. Instead, incorporate: Make it time-efficient. High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is one of my favorites. In just 15-30 minutes a day, you can combine heart-pumping cardio with muscle-building exercises—all from the comfort of your home, with little to no equipment. Why Does This Matter? Every year, “losing weight” is the most common New Year’s resolution. Whether your goal is to shed pounds, build strength, or simply be healthier, the type and intensity of your activity matter. Walking is a great start, but if you’re ready to truly transform your fitness and health, it’s time to take it up a notch! Let’s make this your year to move smarter and get the results you deserve.
