The 5 stages of precarity grief - which are you on?
Have you gone through the 5 stages of precarity grief?
๐Ÿ˜ It's the elephant in the ELT room.
In this excerpt from an upcoming #TeacherTalkingTime podcast episode, , and I discuss precarity and some of the industry mindsets about it.
ELT is by nature a precarious industry - one that's unlikely to see a big change. Many teachers we speak with even say they are leaving the profession completely. Others love it so much and want to find a way to make it work.
Many of us go through the 5 stages of grief dealing with precarity:
๐Ÿ‘‰ Denial
๐Ÿ‘‰ Anger
๐Ÿ‘‰ Bargaining
๐Ÿ‘‰ Depression
๐Ÿ‘‰ Acceptance
Which do you feel you're on, if any?
We concluded our conversation by saying that to remain in ELT, it's very difficult to rely on one stream of income.
How do you view precarity where you are?

Definitely looking for additional income. I love the ELT world, but it don't cut it financially!

ELT is a great space, but certainly it doesn't cut it. What kind of additional incomes are you looking for? Another school, your own business, something else?

Iโ€™m in the same boat as you.
I enjoy the industry and I temporarily looked away from ELT for a few months but then decided I could still work in ELT and earn more money by niching, using social media and starting my own little business.
