One Tip To Become A Master Storyteller
If you want your content to perform better for your clients, or even for yourself as a creator… Then you need to learn storytelling 💬 And if I could give you one tip to instantly improve your storytelling abilities… I’d tell you to implementing this one technique called “The Dance” 🕺 All great stories are a like a dance between 1. Context and 2. Conflict You start by giving some context. The characters on a mission, they’re doing something, and then all the sudden… A conflict arises. You then give some more context, maybe the characters solve the problem and then again… Another conflict. This dance is how you keep the viewer locked into your story 👁️ Whether it’s a marvel movie or a short form piece of content, the dance should always be there. So why does this work? Well it’s because conflict creates open loops of curiosity in the viewers brain 🧠 And by giving context, you’re then closing the curiosity loop 🔒 Then when you introduce another conflict, it reopens that curiosity loop which keeps them engaged until the conflict is resolved. /////////////////////////////////////////////// BONUS TIP: Follow the “But, Therefore” storytelling structure for your scripts, edits, and videos. Here’s the structure: [This Happens] THEREFORE [This Happens] BUT [This Happens] THEREFORE [Then This Happens] (Repeat) By writing your story events out like this, your video scripts like this, and even planning your edit like this, you prevent yourself from having a boring video and you create a video where each event is correlated to the next. Dont use words like “AND THEN [This happened] AND THEN [That happened]” When you use “AND THEN” to tell your story, you’re just piling on detail after detail and your viewer will lose interest. /////////////////////////////////////////////// 🚨 ACTION ITEM 🚨 Now that you’ve just read about these techniques… let’s try something to solidify this information into your brain. In the comments below, reflect on how you can apply this information to the work you do.

YouTube Storytelling Masterclass from VidSummit Day 1
Today at VidSummit, I attended a masterclass from Sticks, a YouTube creator team with a traditional film background. They’re on a mission to bring a cinematic approach to YouTube, creating mini-movies for creators like Ryan Trahan and Mark Rober. Their journey to 500,000+ subscribers in a year is impressive, and I took away three key lessons that I think every content creator can benefit from: 1. Show, Don’t Tell Sticks emphasized making your audience feel something rather than just understand it. This is achieved through the use of tools like: • Composition • Shot size • Camera movement • Color • Body language • Sound effects • Music • Pacing One great tip they shared: try editing your footage before adding any voiceover—let the cuts and music drive the story first. 2. Intention & Obstacle A compelling story always has a character with a goal, and obstacles that stand in the way. Sticks highlighted that before you even start filming, you should ask yourself: • Is my intention compelling enough? • Will real obstacles arise on this journey? The harder it is to reach the goal, the more engaging the story becomes. They recommended introducing small, incremental obstacles that lead to the final objective. 3. Cause & Effect Every beat in your story should cause the next one. The best stories make the audience feel like they can’t miss a moment because each scene drives the next. Even if you’ve vlogged hours of footage, you can find your story by following the formula: • Because this happened, then this happened. Sticks suggested storyboarding out your narrative to identify the moments you want to highlight during editing. In short, the session was a fantastic reminder that, while YouTube and Hollywood are different, Hollywood has already mastered the art of capturing attention and telling emotional, gripping stories. If we can bring that same energy to our YouTube content, there’s no reason we can’t engage viewers just as effectively. Would love to know your thoughts—how are you telling your stories?

Easy Tip To Instantly Increase Tension In Your Edits
In my videos I edit for Ireland Boys Productions, there’s always some sort of challenge they go through that leads to an ultimate climactic moment. And as that moment leads up, as the editor, I want to be sure I’m adding tension before the big moment so viewers keep watching and the moment feels epic when it arrives. So here’s one easy, quick tip on what I do to add that tension and make the moment feel more grand. I start by choosing an epic / suspenseful music track that adds tension and leads up to a climactic moment. I sync up the climactic moment with the moment right before the winner of a challenge is revealed. This creates a moment of suspense where the audience is just waiting to hear who won. Now that the climax of the track is synced up with the moment right before the reveal, I take the current reactions of each contestant’s face and show them all before the answer is revealed. This instills curiosity into the mind and makes it more tense as the energy grows in the moment. This may be hard to understand over a post, but to better understand, I did this exact tip I’m referring to in this video here: https://youtu.be/QrcmaE_hMaA?si=tQfN_1jxwgmARIcC You can find two moments like this that I’m referring to at: 1. 25:24 2. 34:24 I edited this video and just finished it yesterday actually 😂 But as you can see, both moments I flashed different angles and the faces of each contestant before they won in sync with the music that leads to a climax. This created tension and a feeling of grandiosity, making the moment feel epic which is exactly what I was going for. Now answer these questions for me… was this post helpful? How can you apply this tip to your edits? Comment below your thoughts and answers 🙏
