Skool Owner Tries To Solve Monetisation Issue, Doesn't Yet Have Any Traffic
don’t be that person
yes, we’re all guilty of doing it
getting hyper focused and stuck on solving a future problem
psychologists call it prospection bias, or futurism bias
it’s when we become preoccupied with the future or overemphasise it that we lose touch with present reality
i am all for being ready for what potential problems may exist in the future …
… but the key word there is may exist
don’t lose time worry and solving something that isn’t actually happening right now
cross that bridge if it comes your way
instead of trying to solve the “how can i monetise this” or “how can i convert it the paid in the future” go get 100, 300, 1000+ members
you need people to actually monetise
and it’s highly likely that by being around those people you’ll learn what they actually want and value, and can then monetise
you’ll build something with them instead of building some for them and hoping they want it
and in regards to “how can i monetise it” or even “can i monetise it” the answer is right there in front of you
people are monetising ideas and communities like yours
so you can too
chris williamson says to “keep the main thing the main thing” …
… in this context it’s “keep the actual problem the actual problem you solve”
there’s a super simple solution for identifying problems and finding their solution fast
5 steps you can do in less than 5 minutes by asking very simple questions
__
  1. is this a maths or a drama problem?
if at any point you begin to think, assume, or believe and start justifying or telling a story - it’s a drama
problem
if you have a drama problem you need to solve it ASAP so you can turn it into a simple maths problem
drama = subjective
maths = objective
we try to subjectively think through so much, when oftentimes all we’re thinking through is our own reasonings to get to the objective maths we can analyse and act on
objective is much easier to solve
to be objective, you just look at the data (it never lies, your mind will)
__
  1. is your problem traffic related or conversion related?
do you need:
  • more traffic to your page
  • higher conversions on your page
look at the data in your dashboard, it will tell you
__
  1. is your traffic problem an “I need more” or “I need better” … is your conversion problem a “the price is off” or “my messaging is off”?
if it’s a traffic problem, you need:
  • more people to your page if your traffic volume is LOW
  • Higher quality people if you’re getting people to your page and they’re not converting
(there’s a caveat with quality traffic, as it’s hard to gauge UNLESS you have conversations with them. it’s more likely you have a conversion problem than a traffic quality problem UNLESS people are booking calls and they’re the completely wrong people)
if it’s a conversion problem, you need to either:
  • tweak your pricing
  • optimise your messaging
__
  1. identify your solution
if you need more traffic - the solution is ads, organic content, outreach, and/or affiliates
if you need better traffic - the solution is ads, organic content, outreach, and/or affiliates
if you need a higher conversion rate - the solution is optimising your vsl, offer, description, design for mobile/desktop, pricing, content people see before landing on the about page, and/or how you package things
again, the key is observing the data
once you know what you’re focusing on, if what you’re currently doing is not working you need to try something new
this DOESN’T mean a complete overhaul
oftentimes it’s a small tweak to a high leverage part of what you’re doing
if you’ve got thousands of reps, you’ll know what this is
if you’re getting your reps in, look at your data
the data tells you what to tweak
test the hook, test the headline, test the creative, test the subject line, test the open, test a different framing, test the price point, test the strategy
some tools work better than others for getting specific results …
… like, if you’re trying to build a house with wood and a flamethrower you’re going to have a bad time
you be better off grabbing some nails and a hammer instead
__
  1. Application
you go and implement …
… then you wait …
… then you reassess the data …
… and you act based on what it says …
if you listen, and I mean REALLY listen to what Sam talks about when it comes to skool, he talks a lot about analysing data and using it as the foundation for making changes
if it’s good enough for him then hey, I’ll shut up, listen, and apply
hope you found this educational content valuable

data and logic is the way to scale businesses, without it we’re just gambling 🤷‍♂️

TREMENDOUS value here! Thank you for providing this logical problem solving framework. Step 1. was my fave - "if you have a drama problem you need to solve it ASAP so you can turn it into a simple maths problem."
Outside of business, I feel like this step is the leading cause of [the below] with married couples. I for one and am always looking for the math problem! Sometimes that part can be as simple as 2+2 staring at us in the face, but if you dare say 4, oh boy! IYKYK

100%. I'm learning to become more and more aware when my wife is in a drama problem mode and supporting her with it and through it. I used to try and "solve" things out of the bat and I've come to realise it's a "nick listen" not a "nick solve" thing
when she's ready to remove the drama, I'll be there for her and ready as well. for now, I'm there for her as she's in it without wanting to change a thing

I love this . Being subjective and worrying about the what if can be the source of so much anxiety! It's a great reminder that coming back to real data is way more efficient.

1000%. I used to get caught playing the "what if" game so much, and it was always focused on the "what if negative outcome" 🤣
With time, I'm able to catch myself and turn it into a "what if positive outcome" instead. It's much more fun 🤪
