For 17 1/2 years I was a member of BNI, the world's largest business referral organization with over 330,000 members and 11,000 chapters. When members left the organization, I would do an exit interview and they usually said they were leaving because they were getting too few referrals for business. Each week every chapter listed all of its members and showed how many times they attended or were absent, how many referrals the gave and received, how many visitors they invited, and how much income had been generated from their referrals. So, when I conducted the exit interviewed and looked at their statistics, the majority of the time I could see their lack of referrals was due to their lack of participation.
