Shifting
One of the speaking techniques I learned from Jonathan Sprinkles (motivational speaker, best-selling author, & coach on connections) was shifting positions. Starting in one position you might say "You may know me as ......." and moving a step or two in one direction say "but I am also .....". Speaking is all about attraction and this technique keeps the audience attention. Try it, you will like it.

Using Gestures While Speaking
Most people just focus on their words while speaking when 60% or more influence comes from your body language. Improving your gestures when speaking can make your communication more engaging and effective. Here are five ways to enhance your use of gestures: 1. Make Your Gestures Purposeful Ensure that your hand movements are meaningful and emphasize key points rather than being random or distracting. For instance, when counting items, use your fingers to illustrate each point. 2. Match Gestures to Content Use gestures that align with what you are talking about. If you’re describing something big, stretch your arms out wide; if you’re emphasizing precision, use a pinching motion to show detail. 3. Practice Open Gestures Avoid crossing your arms or clenching your fists, as these can appear defensive or closed-off. Instead, use open hand movements that convey approachability and sincerity. Keep your hands out of your pockets and above your waist. 4. Keep Gestures Natural and Relaxed Overly stiff or forced gestures can seem unnatural. Practice speaking in front of a mirror or record yourself to observe how your hands move. Aim for fluid and relaxed movements. 5. Use Gestures to Reinforce Key Messages For critical points in your speech, use gestures to make them more memorable. For example, using a strong forward hand motion can emphasize determination, while spreading your hands apart can convey inclusivity. Incorporate these techniques to make your speaking more dynamic and engaging.

Fighting Success
Why team members fight success Many team members fight success every step of the way. And why do they fight success? Because success requires change. And we all hate change! Think about it. We have knowledge and habits now that give us our present results. To get new results, we have to learn new skills. These new skills are unfamiliar to us, things we don’t know now, and they will require change. Remember, we hate change. So team members insist on keeping their same knowledge, habits and skills, and hope their results will be different. Someone once said that is the definition of insanity. Now here is something uncomfortable. After reading this, we too have a decision to make. 1. We could choose to change and learn new skills. 2. Or, we could smile, think learning new things is a good point, go back to surfing the Internet, watching television, and doing the same things we are now … and stay frustrated that our business isn’t growing. Remember, it is the things that we don’t know yet, the things that we think are bizarre or unbelievable, that have the best chance of giving us the results we want. This is a tip by Tom "Big Al" Schreiter, my networking skills mentor, who will be in Houston on November 26th at 7:00 PM (location tba) to conduct a training session. Put it on your calendar!
