Hey. Sorry for this incredibly crude financial question. When you say "open to all" ... Does that mean - Free?

@Emma Robson I'm overwhelmed with gratitude. Thanks for looking after us!
Faces and Jaws
Hey team. Thought I'd post my question to the Community Board in case anyone else is interested. Context: Groundwork has helped me become aware of how my holding patterns can result in significant tightness of the jaw and how I move my neck and head. (And... then how the impacted movement of my neck and head impacts the tightness/discomfort of my jaw which then exacerbates my bad mood). I've started doing some "intuitive face/jaw massage and stretching". (In private. Because jaw stretching would genuinely scare small children). This provides temporary relief. Question: @Emma Robson has sometimes included a face stimulation at the end of a morning practice and seems to know a thing or two about the lymph system and the benefits of that area. Do you have any recommended reading / videos / resources that would help me in my Face Quest? (I'm genuinely interested in all the tiny muscles that live around the face and base of skull. I have a feeling they're important) (And yes, before anyone asks, I am trying to address the underlying causes for the clenching.) (The pain gets to "can't chew my crusty sourdough bread" and also impacts my singing resonance so it's legit impacting my quality of life)

@Joanne Greenfield thanks!!! I'll give it a crack! (I've heard that's the best tongue position for breathing too! Double win)
Countdowns and Q&A
Is anyone else getting sentimental when they realise we're at the 10 day countdown to graduation? Also, I'm excited for Q&A this week because I've accumulated some (relevant) stories and metaphors. ( @Glenn Robson / @Emma Robson - if you were to reveal the topic ahead of time I could order these ideas to be more coherent!! And decrease my anxiety of repeating the "what does functional mean to you?" "Being able perform said function" sess)

@Chloe Upton I reckon that Glenn and Emma would say that the journey never ends and we always must have a beginners mind, so don't be sad! You'll be beginning the journey forever (and you had already started it without realising since you first started moving as a newborn!)

Mmm. I don't feel this topic applies to me 🤭
Glennspiration for the Week
Hi all. I'm taking notes from last week's Group Class in preparation for this week. There was a great moment at the end when Glenn got a bit poetic. Thought I'd share it here in case anyone missed it. "We think of ourselves like machines, as if we were cars. A car doesn’t change shape – the parts are the parts. But that’s not how we are at all. Spend your time shaping a Bonsai Tree. The same thing happens to your limbs. You are shaped by gravity and time. That’s it. If you were to simplify everything that we’re f*cking around with here – it’s “you are shaped by gravity and time”. Learn how to play with gravity, and learn how to spend time doing it. F*cking Boom." (Mic Drop)

Happy Friday - unexpected wins
Sometimes we do things and get unexpected outcomes, pleasantly surprised by changes. Maybe we weren’t seeking these things specifically, or perhaps we were caught up searching for a different result that we were blindsided. Either way, it’s a lovely thing and it feeds the trust in the human body being a complex system. An example for me this week, a positive surprising result; since I stopped teaching regular classes and face to face PT my daily movement has significantly decreased in terms of variety and quality. I still move all day with the kids but it’s not intentional. Previously I might demonstrate foot rooting exercises 3-4x per day. I would hang regularly throughout the day. I would do reps of all types of exercises.. so my body felt great before I even put any time aside for my training. Nowadays that’s a different story. But this week, I got stuck into some jobs I’ve been putting off. Weeding my garden specifically. I got time in the sunshine, barefoot in nature, the kids helped fill the wheel barrow and dig around, my toes, feet and ankles got amazingly stimulated and I even got a sweat on which felt great. I had been a bit down because I haven’t found as much time to train as I would like to, but by taking on this ‘chore’ I was pleasantly surprised by how good my body felt. I was moving through squat, fisherman squats, and various low gait positions for a couple of hours, 3 days in a row. The only benefit to procrastinating this job so long was that I finally did it on the first days of spring when the sunshine was so glorious (hello Vitamin D ☀️). A few things I did to make this job nourishing to the body… I used both hands to pull weeds, I raked on both sides of my body, I squatted with flat feet, sometimes on the balls of my feet, and moved into fisherman squat regularly. I stood up from time to time when the legs needed a rest and then got straight back to work. When lifting the wheelbarrow to the greens bin I used my whole body. At the end of the night I lied down in the lounge room and did some thoracic rotation and rolling over the basketball. 💫

I have a "win", but it's more mental. I was being super consistent and reaping lots of fruit from the Groundwork syllabus for the first 7 weeks, and when I'm feeling good it's easy to show up and be motivated. Then a few events and health bumps flipped me in to some physical discomfort and some changes in how much I could do in the activities. My positivity and motivation became sulkiness and avoidance. Today I was reflecting on the concept of kinetic hygiene and the comparison to brushing one's teeth. And how ridiculous it would be for me to suddenly feel as though I've lost my tooth brushing skill and therefore start avoiding the brushing of the teeth and getting worried about going to the dentists (I think Glenn and Emma are the dentists in this analogy). The point is, one doesn't brush their teeth to boast of tooth brushing perfection and then feel intolerable if there's a change. You brush your teeth because it's good for you and your soul. And with that, I restarted my morning practice accepting where I am and not being afraid of my performance. End of metaphor / weekly win.
