Celebrated author of the Cadwaladr Quests and Chronicles series Sheena Ager is hosting a family vocabulary session on Wednesday, 27th November at 5:30 PM. You can find out more about Sheena's books by visiting her website. Sheena will lead an interactive discussion on using words from books in everyday conversations, showing how vocabulary can become a natural part of life. This approach not only enhances communication but also makes mastering 11-plus vocabulary easier! In this interactive session, Sheena will guide you through how to use ‘tricky’ words in everyday conversations, helping vocabulary become a natural part of life. This approach enhances communication and makes mastering 11 plus vocabulary easier! There will be a particular focus on contronyms, a fascinating type of word with opposite meanings depending on context. Before the session, a sample chapter from Sheena's book Tangled Time will be emailed to you. Please read it in advance to get the most out of the discussion. During the session, we’ll explore creative ways to bring tricky words to life in daily interactions, helping you and your children build a strong and practical vocabulary. After the session, you’ll receive a replay and two bonus documents Sheena has prepared for you to take away. Important: This session is free for families in our year 4 and year 5 programmes. How to continue a non-fiction passage
In our parent's reading workshop, we discussed several ways to enhance reading skills. One was continuing a story... a parent asked how we apply this to non-fiction passages. It was an excellent question, kudos to @Anu Nair who asked this. So I set about finding out the best ways to do this. And welcome, Anu to our flagship OS course.🥳 We are so excited that you have joined it and your child will be taking part in the book club meeting on 26th May! These are my tips...🌟 1. Do some digging on the topic, for example, if it is a passage on climate change, research recent changes in a specific country where climate has remarkably changed and expand on it. 2. Pick a person mentioned in the passage find out more about him/her and write about them. 3. Find out what the future could be for the topic mentioned. For example, if it is about farming, read up about the advances and predictions for the sector and write in your own words... Do you have any more tips to continue a non-fiction passage...write them down below. This is a link to help you with continuing stories, I love Robert Lomax's videos ❤️https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCLlg1U7yf4

@Erika Perez lovely to see Franco today, and I'm really looking forward to working with him more in my sessions. Franco gave a super answer to 'what is critical thinking?' He answered, 'thinking out of the box'. Fabulous answer! I couldn't have made that more succinct myself!

It was great fun! Guys, if you want to join my free weekly comprehension, SPaG and vocabulary sessions, WA me on 07976 592313.
It is about your mindset
I have to admit it. Half of what we strive for and succeed at is mindset. It is the way we think of and about something. Taking action requires a certain kind of thinking. You can make all manner of excuses. I have been doing this all week and this evening I told myself, enough. I need to ACT if I have to make this work. So I brushed off my fear and finished a task I had been putting off blaming it on my low mood. Moods can be unpredictable, much like the weather in England. But habits are something that we can set and follow. Quickly they become routine and then a regular occurrence. For example, did you know that you could, starting from today, sit with your child in the morning before school and finish a short vocabulary task? It can be playing the vocab game or doing a 10-minute exercise in VR or NVR. Pick your time, pick your task and do it in 10 minutes. It is what we do that matters, more than what we think we must do. When it is done, the feeling of accomplishment trumps the feeling of procrastination, doubt and even fear. That is why we are having the comprehension challenge at 5:30 pm every day starting on Monday next week. It will be a short 30-minute session with 10-minute work to be completed before the second day and uploaded on our daily Challenge thread. I have sent all those who registered for the challenge an email explaining the details. Let's do this! What's the Plan? Day 1- Making Inferences from Visual Cues Day 2- Text Treasure Hunt- Sequencing, Inferencing Day 3- Comprehension Secrets with Sheena Ager- Inference, Vocabulary Day 4- Storytelling- Summarising, Discovering Day 5- Getting familiar with Classic Tales
