My Mook Jong has been named!
Hello fellow Wing Chun Community members, I am proud to announce that I have finally named my Mook Jong (wooden dummy). I have named it Carlson as well. My reason for sharing my name with my Mook Jong aligns with my own personal philosophy, which is the fact that we as martial artists/practitioners do not have any opponents or nemesis to conquer other than ourselves. Our opponents are true reflections of who we are when we deal with situations, in order to conquer others, we need to conquer ourselves first. When you use the Mook Jong with the above mentality, you will find that you will align with it better as it is an image of yourself. The centre line of the Mook Jong is your own and when you move, you focus on being the opponentโs centre line. As you perform any techniques or pivoting movements, you aim to control the Mook Jongโs centre line as your own, as though you are aiming to control your opponentโs balance with every technique. The structure of the Mook Jong should align with your own structure as it should be thought of as your own. When you train with your Mook Jong whilst having the mentality of it being a true reflection of your own image, you allow the Moon Jong to teach you as you strive to possess its skills/structure. The philosophy aligns with yourselves becoming your own teacher and student at the same time. When you train with your human training partner (e.g. Luk sau, chi sau, balance taking etc.) adapt the same mentality. I really hope that I donโt sound like I require psychiatric assistance. If this post makes sense to you, please feel free to adapt this mentality every time you use your Mook Jong. Please feel free to comment freely about what you think and if you have a name for your Mook Jong, please share it in the comments and the reason for the name. Thank you for reading.
