Classic clipper
Did anyone get the free classic clipper from IK? Got an e-mail notification that I would receive a serial # on the 23rd of August, for one. Nothing yet! The latest mix Athon was one of the best and so informative. These are so much fun and a great learning experience for all. Cheers 😃

If you log in to your IK Multimedia account and then go here you should see the serial number. If it's not there, shoot me an email at support@mastering.com so I pass your address on to IK.

For anyone that didn't receive it - if you log in to your IK Multimedia account and then go here you should see the serial number. If you don't see it, **but definitely signed up before the deadline of the 22nd**, shoot me a mail on support@mastering.com and I'll pass your address along to IK to see if they can fix things for you.

Heartbroken over my mixes
Hey, guys. Just a little humor and you guys may be able to give me some advice, too. My mixing has really leveled up since I joined this community. I've watched the 10 hr video on how to use compressors and most of the 9 hr video on how to use reverb and my mixing gets better with each new song. Even my mom said she can tell the difference. She said my mixes sound like they have more life now. They said excellent in the car. So I was like "yo, I wanna hear my beats through my Amazon Echo," so I paired my Alexa to my phone and played them. I was heartbroken by what I heard 😂 And it's always my low end sounds that sounded horrible. All of my other synths sound great. My vocal samples sound great. The drums sound good, but my bass was all over the place. The sub is loud enough in one beat in my car AND my headphones (regular headphones, not studio headphones) but I could barely hear it through my Alexa. The 808s in that beat were perfect, but then I have another beat where I use 808s and they hit in the car but are barely audible through my Alexa. I think one reason is my reverb plug-in may be trash. It has parameters I need it to have. It just doesn't get the job done. I have a better one now that I just upgraded to Pro Tools 2024. And of course the only reason I would use reverb on bass or 808s at all is to give it that depth and spacial effect. The reverb isn't audible. So my low end. I've two different ways to try and fix that problem. One Mastering.com video said to use medium attack times when compressing low end. Another guy with Mastering.com said to lighten up on the threshold when I serial compress. What I've been doing - and as far as I could tell, it was working but now I'm not so sure - was dividing the ratio up between however many compressors I use when serial compressing. Any advice on compressing my low end would sure be helpful. Or maybe somekne could tell me why my mixes sound good everywhere but in my Alexa.

Just to add to this - what others have said about saturation is great advice - you might also want to get yourself a Behringer Behritone C5A - they sound like crap but for a good reason haha. Perfect for testing if your bass will be audible on smaller speakers.

@Phillip Patterson Pretty sure they're clones - usual Behringer shenanigans haha. I just have a single one and send a mono signal to it.
BRICK AND MORTAR OR ONLINE?
This question is inspired by the fairly recent closure of all Sam Ash physical store locations, liquidation sales of all inventory and the transition to online sales only. For those of you still interested in gear, musical instruments etc., do you prefer to shop, browse and purchase in-person/in stores or online/virtually? Other options might include: through friends or with a Craigslist type board or something like that, although those choices are obviously neither a physical or online storefront. Please share opinions, stories, experiences and, of course…WHY!

BRICK AND MORTAR OR ONLINE?

Here in Europe I mostly buy through Thomann - I like that they have a 30 day, free return policy, so I can order something and try it at home with my own setup (amps, speakers etc) and then decide if I want to keep it or not. It is nice to go into a store and play a bunch of different stuff, but this way of working suits me fine.

@J Es Yes, being able to test something for 30 days and then send back is pretty great - you could actually order stuff just to use on an album and return after it's recorded haha
