Did this video get taken down?
Hi everyone! I’m trying to give someone the rundown on vocal editing and remembered a 1hr video mastering uploaded with Chris and Jake a few months back on the subject that was short n sweet, but I’ve spent 2 days looking through their uploads and nada. Am I making this video up? Did it get taken down? If so, that’s fine. I can just send the 10hr one 🙃 . Although I’d prefer to keep it simple for them. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Layering drums
What are your thoughts on layering? Specifically snares and kicks to create a unique sound. What is something that helps you manage the increase in volume?

@Berlin RedluX I think there is a time and place for layering in the creative process. Knowing when to and when not to is important. I agree that finding good sample is key but you mentioned something even more important, knowing where to find them! Shoot, organizing them This is deff an area of opportunity for me as a producer. I have thousands of samples in my drive that I need to sit down and go through and really refine my “own “ sample library, I’ve deff neglected them since I lean so heavily on vsts and like to play the instruments myself. Here’s what I know, at the end of the day if its close to the reference and we’re training our ears to hear whats happening in the song we’ll get better at finding those good samples.

@Berlin RedluX thats the part that was confusing ahaha I’m like okay so in this scenario that low end is good? Theres is a time and place for that I guess

@Agnes Zareba I’ve been watching a lot of their older videos, they’ve got good content even back in 2019
Quick Question?
Any experienced mastering engineers in here that have pushed a -6 lufs song out via DSP's? Whats the best headroom to output to avoid issues?

-7 to -9 lufs , -1.0db, thats industry standard. You can go higher for certain genres like EDM. But honestly, your reference is a pretty good guide to where you need to be at in lufs. Keep in mind this stuff changes ALL. THE. TIME. since streaming became popular.
How master a given mix that is already -6lufs?
Title says everything. Seen a master request for a given mix that is already -6lufs. So can you master that or not? I am having a go at it and increasing the loudness, but will probably not submit it to them. Question is could/should I normalise -4db down to -10db then master? Yes the other way is to ask them to mix it lower in volume to -10. Not sure if they had any takers for the master yet. Over to the masters here ...... thoughts please 🤔

Theres a few things you can do 1. You can lower the gain on it and when you’re clipping pay attention that you don’t hear any distortion. 2. You can ask them to mix lower (-6 db) 3. You can ask them if they removed processing from their mix bus. Sometimes they bake limiters and compressors from the mix bus and dont realize it, that can eat up headroom.
