New PBs and trusting the process
I've always struggled short course not being a very powerful swimmer - a big problem when most top breaststrokers spend almost half the race underwater! Last weekend I had a great time racing in Sheffield and managed to set 3 PBs. 50 BR - 31.10 --> 30.52 (finally faster than my long course 😂) 100 BR - 1:07.79 --> 1:06.53 200 BR - 2:28.33 --> 2:27.20 I even managed to sneak under 30 seconds on my relay split (29.98) which was awesome. The 200 needs some big improvements still but it's getting there. Short course season is never a focus, but it's been a good chance for me to work on my weaknesses like turns etc. and hopefully this will carry into long course improvements. I think what worked best was my mentality approaching races. I may have missed national qualifying times by tiny margins in each race, but I still approached the next race with the same confidence that I was improving. In short, trust the process, if you work smart you will succeed eventually.

@David Karasek yep I do a lot of stroke counting. On threshold sets I'm around 6-7 strokes per 25 or when we're doing slower technique work 4-5. Some drills to work on that would be awesome!

Time out of the pool
Hi everyone I am writing this post because recently my pool has been closed because of something wrong with the lighting and a gala was cancelled on Sunday sadly because of it. Thankfully we got to train yesterday at a different pool but our pool might not open till next week and they arent running any sessions this week and thats not good coming up to Counties. My dad said we could go training at a pool near us but I wont be able to do the amount of hours I normally do so does anyone have any drills I could do at home that will help when I get back into the pool.

With counties in January/February I really wouldn't stress too much about missing a few days/even a week or two in the pool. Might as well use it as a chance to improve your mental game as well - this is a good place to start! To win races you have to become a 'racer' and that's all about developing a certain mentality and loving what you do. What you do outside the pool is just as, if not more important.

Hard to say exactly without watching you swim but once you have good timing and a good streamline position sub 3 should definitely be achievable. Remember to use the kick to drive your arms into streamline and tuck your head below your arms. In terms of pacing, you gotta find your easy speed first 50 (this will come with training - you'll know when it clicks just right), hold it for the 2nd 50, build 3rd 50 and build to max last 50 without compromising on streamlining. When you think about breaststroke technique (and any other stroke tbf) it's quite simply about maximising propulsion and minimising resistance. You'll probably feel when something is/isn't working, so then look at videos and work with your coach to figure something out. Hope that's useful
