Why I signed up for Nagina's course
I have been a professional weight loser. I've been playing this game of ups and downs since late high school. I was a practicing bulimic and binge eater through college running eight miles a day and still gaining weight because of my habits. My husband and I have done Weight Watchers more than once with success in losing, but not in keeping it off. In between we had an incredible life in Alaska where I was constantly on the go, however skipping meals was how I lost weight which I gave myself permission to eat treats or sugary items from time to time. I had a killer wardrobe and loved how I felt. Then we returned to the lower 48. During COVID we did Keto, however the program I chose was focused on his body type. He lost 50 pounds, but I gained. Then he gained it all back. We buy organic groceries all the time, however our life is such that we are often in a "fast food season" as my husband's career pulls him in multiple directions with little consistency; he's on-call 24/7. Starting day 2 of the 5-Day Metabolism Boost workshop gives me hope even with what I was able to implement on day 1 that my husband and I can be successful. More than anything, I'm curious to hear more of what she is teaching as I think it will build on what we have learned so far and begin to undo the negative thinking and shame/guilt we've experienced in the past. I love the mindsets. Good food for thought!

@Bridget Sloane are you putting your story in ginger green tea? I would think the ginger would injure the scoby. If you add fruit or say pumpkin and spices I do it in a second ferment. The sugars get eaten in the ferment stage

@Sandra Slaven You can start with small amounts. I generally make enough for about 24 to 32 oz. It is also best for second fermentation to use the bottles with flip tops (thing the beer bottles that you can open and close). I have used cleaned store bought kombucha bottles but have had a few lids blow (messy to clean ceiling and everything else). When you are first getting started it is best to use black tea or a blend of black and green tea. Your scoby will have a better chance of getting strong. I also make it with coffee - that scoby will make it for several months and then get weak. Many will tell you that you can't use honey. Not true. But it does have a different name. I also tend to use less sugar than many recipes call for - but experiment. You can taste the liquid as it ferments. When you no longer taste sugar it is ready. If you wait longer it isn't bad but may be sour. Be sure to cover your jar with a coffee filter, cheese cloth or even an old square from a tee-shirt. If you brew more than one type - keep the jars far apart from each other. For example I don't keep the kombucha brew close to a sauerkraut ferment.
Set back in my lessons
I have had a fall so missed on 3 lessons. Hope I can sit and catch up tomorrow and get back to my routine with the follow-up lessons. Missed the Weekly Planning though which I cannot recover

@Sudha Narasimhadevara glad to here from one fall sister to another. My last one was a slip and crash my nose into a windowsill. Ugly but other than the first hour just embarrassing. We'll there was blood to clean up.😉

@Ruth Thong so the smoothie, yogurt and seeds were just too much?

@Ruth Thong Get plain greek yogurt. There are also others that are sugar free.
Coconut sugar
Can we have both cinnamon and coconut sugar in coffee?

@Ruth Thong or you can make it from the individual spices you have in your spice cabinet - make a small amount in case you don't like it. I love it. Google Chia Spice Blend recipes

@Ruth Thong You might also look at Sprouts (do you have that market). They sell a great number of their spices in bulk. I have gone in and bought just a teaspoon of some that I have needed when traveling. That way you won't have to commit to a full bottle. Though if you don't like it and get a whole bottle - I will be happy to use it up for you. 😁
