What hobbies do you guys have?
I’ve pretty much had the same hobby for 25 years. But given a big tangled mess of issues (the same ones that bring me to Brojo) it’s become more stressful and depressing than entertaining. So I’m on the hunt for alternatives. For reference, I’ve been dancing one or more of salsa/bachata/kizomba/zouk since 1999. It’s pretty challenging finding something that fills the gaps in fitness, social intros, nights at the bar, IRL tinder, and regular travel destinations for big events. Plus of course finding something I find interesting. So, let’s have a discussion about what you guys get yourselves up to. PS, I’ve done a few PT boxing sessions at the gym, which has got me to look at the nearby boxing gyms and Krav Maga options. I plan to check out a few trial classes.

@Scott Harvey 100% agree that racquet sports are great opportunities to get some exercise, learn a new skill and socialize. The key is to find a club or organization that has established "learn to" programs. This will set you up with people of similar skills rather than being fed to the wolves. Here are my personal thoughts on each option. Tennis-you want to start playing doubles, much smaller space to cover. Badminton-pretty quick compared to tennis, smaller court but you need some hand eye coordination. Squash-lots of floor to cover. Ball moves quickly and there are solid walls to contend with. In North America, Pickleball (I get it, what the hell is a pickleball) has become popular, especially with the more mature crowd. Game isn't as fast, nor is the court size as large as other racquet sports. I play inconsistently but will ramp up once the snow flies here in Canada. Another racquet sport I have heard about but never seen is Padel. Padel is huge in Spain, 4 million players and 20,000 courts. Over 400 courts in Britan. Apparently very easy to learn and much more social than other racquet sports. My experience is, no matter how bad you'll be at it there's probably someone else in the same spot or worse. I used to be super competitive even when I had no business being that way. It ruined the game for myself and my playing partner. In the words of a very wise woman (my wife), get it over and get it in. If that doesn't work, laugh about it, it'll drive your opponents nuts! If anyone gets a chance to give it a go, please report back!
I feel like an arsehole
I stood up for my boundaries and my self respect, and my boss feels that all i did was make a situation worse. I work at a pub as a cellar man doing tasks like line cleaning and counting in the delivery. On Halloween the pub ran a fancy dress karaoke night that I took part in. Had a great time. End of the night i go to say goodnight to the landlady and her fella, and they are being yelled at by a drunk regular. I have been asked by them to not get involved so I stand a little to the side and wait for an opportunity to say goodbye. I seem to have been too close however the drunk then rounded on me. As I was told bot to provoke anything I stood still and let the fool vent his speen, when he ran out of steam said goodnight and made to leave. The bar manager then said to me that I should have backed down and the landlady concurred. Many if my personal confidence issue stem from school bulling and have promised myself to not allow that situation happen again. I feel that backing away would just encouraged the drunk to continue abusing me and the landlady etc. am I wrong in this? This is a new attitude for me and I want to be confident I didn’t overstep. I would appreciate your feedback.

Scott, I support your stance in that situation. If this is a regular who consistently acts this way once he's too many pints in maybe shouldn't be a regular. The Drunk is the problem in this case and if the "management" is desperate for his business they may do well with some reflection on how he affects others with his behaviour. Maybe he has his own demons and could use a referral to BROJO!
30 Day Social Confidence
I am from Toronto (close enough) Canada. I am joining this 30 day challenge because I struggle in social environments, especially if I'm new to the group. For years I feel that I have been on the outside looking in and not been able to penetrate the inner circles. I find myself looking at peoples backs. I hope to be able to enter any room and have the confidence to walk up to anyone and initiate a conversation. Right now my biggest challenge is overcoming the belief that I don't have anything intelligent or relevant to contribute.

Hi, I’m a “Nice Guy” with over 60 years of experience. I have struggled to figure out why I’m a disaster and have found my way here.
