Seeking Advice on Structuring Free vs. Paid Communities for a Hyper-Niche Craft Audience (Roman Mosaics, 2nd BC - 6th AD)
I was on the Skool onboarding call recently and I see the sense in going free for my community but here's my question: I'm in a real niche of a niche of a niche of a niche (craft - making mosaics - copying Roman mosaics - 2nd BC - 6th AD) been on it 20 years, the way this rolls is there are no advanced courses, I have one foundation one plus another on drawing the patterns (plus a bunch of subsections for mini courses). Having another, paid community would be repeating the same thing, it's all fundamentals. So, I monetise the implementation, personal guidance from me , 1-2-1 or 1-2-many on zoom. Q. What do you think if I have my free group but then have a group within that community that have paid a fixed amount to get them. I would have no MRR, just the upsell. If I have another paid community for that MRR then questions they ask there would be relevant to all my community and I'd feel I need to keep repeating the answers to my free community. I hope this makes sense!

Yeah focus on the free without worrying about the course. Would even test this on a friend or someone you know wants to do this. I assume you probably have experience teaching others outside skool? I assume because you already know what to teach. I think once you get a few people to join you will know what they need based on feedback. But you will also find that you need to work on your offer a lot more. Unless you already have some previous clients. Again a lot of information I am assuming. Get selling your free community. You will find out where you problems lie. Maybe your about page and offer need to improve. Then once you got that, then you can get feedback on the course. After all this then you will be ready to think about your selling offer. It will come naturally when you have costumers. Because your free community will have more needs that arise and the 1-2-1 will be a no brainer and it will be super easy to sell.

@Lawrence Payne One way you can do this is to have class unlock manually. Which has the 1-2-1 or zoom link. You unlock that when they pay you however you decide they pay. There are other options like having a youtube where you teach the free stuff and then you can convert your free community to a paid community after a while. Essentially the people that have been with you can pass on the knowledge and all you do is moderate and do weekly Q&A. You also want to think how the community can benefit each member. That way they can inspire eachother to continue and improve. Plus the free members will not want to leave if its a paid group. They have lifetime access for free
Weekly Payments
Are we looking at or considering the idea of weekly payments for Skool communities?

@Will Nelson I just recently started the free trials. The issue with weekly and monthly payments is the card transactions. The fact we can't control failed credit card charges makes annual a no brainer. Just from the credit card charge alone. Free Trial to Failed Card Charge. Monthly Charge to Failed Card Charge. Weekly Charge to Failed Card Charge. I could see Weekly Charges churning so fast. I guess if they are expecting fast results and they are accustomed to the weekly charges it makes sense? Like hello fresh? I think they are weekly? But annual at least you have a year worth that you don't have to worry about with the credit card. This is only from a credit card charge point of view. Plus Annual is a Win - Win. They get discount you get more up front.

@Roshie Shaw Trying to understand what you are saying. Multiple Business, I can only think of 1. I could probably google them. How would this weekly offer be lucrative and how can it invite more users than Monthly or Annual? Is there a proven business that has done this? Hello Fresh is based on Meals, so I guess weekly makes sense because people don't want to pay for a month's worth of food. But if I payed for Yearly and got a discount I would do it. If I can cancel Hello Fresh any time, then it makes it easier to leave early. If I pay one year for Hello Fresh I know I am eating those 4-5 meals each week for a year. I can switch what I order each week, but I am committed for the long run.

Rules for this community
I'm not happy with the recent trends in this community. This is a place for genuine conversations and connections with other community owners. This is not a place for you to build your "thought leader" reputation with "4 things I learned in Bali about leadership" type posts and hollow comments. Here's the rules: 1. Don't be annoying 2. No self promotion 3. Don't use chatGPT 4. This isn't LinkedIn: Don't be a "thought leader" (see meme) 5. No engagement farming: Empty content to boost posts and get likes 6. Be positive 7. Make an effort If you see any posts/comments that break these rules - report them. If you're not sure, report them anyway. We're tightening up moderation.

@Berkant Mustafa yeah essentially that is what I have learned. But most don't think that way. The usually add the business when they have to publish their game because in order to get paid they need the business. So I start with that.
