Devious Thought - I didn't do it, though!
Yesterday, I attended one of those online webinars where a "guru" says, " I'm giving away all of my secrets." Um...if by "giving away" you mean buying an annual subscription to Kajabi through your affiliate link, NO! That's neither "giving away" nor ethical, IMO. But, while on the webinar, the host mentioned there were over 300 participants. I couldn't tell because the participant count was hidden from everyone. This devious approach ran through my head: What if I posted a link to the free download page for my book? Would that be ethical? I didn't do it, but I seriously considered it. After all, I felt cheated out of my time for attending, only to find out it was a Kajabi commercial. What are everyone's thoughts on this? It feels devious, but it is an innovative approach. I'm sure a few people would have opted to download a free copy of a book titled "Liberating the Overworked Manager." Thoughts? Am I a bad person? 😬

I'm Going After a Publishing Deal (here's what I've learned)
I'm working on my next book, which will help creators overcome procrastination/perfectionism and create freely (so they can grow a brand and a thriving creator business). I've decided to secure a traditional publishing deal this time around to see how it works. Here's one interesting thing I've learned: With an audience of 10,000, you can get a small publishing deal (indy publishers) With an audience of 20,000, you can get a larger deal, potentially one with a large NY publisher. Of course, your platform is only one consideration. You have to be a good writer and have a great (and timely) book idea. But the power of your "platform" is one of the key considerations publishers look at. My takeaway: The time you spend building your personal brand is POWERFUL. I'm really glad I decided to start posting consistently a couple of years ago. My audience is between 15-20K (socials + email list), so we'll see where I land. I am confident I can get some kind of deal, it just depends on if it's good enough for me to accept. I'll keep you updated on how it goes. But remember: Organic content = brand power Brand power = more freedom and control over how you make money And it takes a while to build. The best time to start was yesterday.

Years ago, I was able to get a literary agent to represent me. The main reason is that two other authors (both NYT best sellers) were involved. Susan Scott had agreed to write a foreword and Dan Pink was contributing a front cover blurb. The agent secured two publisher meetings with me - Wiley and Harper business. In each meeting, within the first 5 minutes, they wanted to know my platform. What's your (at that time) Twitter follower count? How many keynotes have you delivered in the past 6 months? What is the largest client you're consulting with? Alas, despite having a stellar book idea, good prose, an agent, and a bitchin' book proposal, the book was never sold. Especially with traditional publishing, platform is EVERYTHING! If you can't bring 100,000+ buyers with you, forget it. The saying holds true..."publishers don't want you until you don't need them." πŸ˜‰ @Brian Ellwood You have a large social following, but you only have 49 members in this Skool community. I'm trying like hell to build my Skool community but have been having trouble. There's a whopping three people in there now, and that includes me. How can we get more people in these communities? Have a great week everyone! -Brian

@Brian Ellwood 🀣...I feel 'ya, slim! 🀣 As for the rule of 300, is that in a day/week? That's 5 hours per day. But, before having clients, I guess I've got time, right? πŸ˜‰ In other news, I've been accepted as an expert contributor to allBusiness.com, so I'll be publishing at least one long form article per month. And, I've landed another podcast appearance. This time on "Your Partner in Success Radio." Like the tortoise says, "Slow and steady wind the race."
What role do you see AI playing in the future of coaching/creator business?
this is something I think about almost daily now. Where can AI replace me, what is my real job, how can I get ahead of it now... Would love to hear your thoughts about how you see AI playing a role in your business over the next few years.

Here's how I recently used AI to save some time. In the work that I do, I interview several people in teams and organizations and quantify hidden costs. One of the purposes of the interviews is to capture quotes that will eventually be (anonymously) read back to the entire group. My job is to search for the root cause of hidden costs and create themes for improvement which will address the root causes, thereby reducing the hidden costs. On a my most recent engagement, I had AI analyze all the quotes to find patterns and affinity group them. Once I had that, I asked it to identify potential root causes and generate themes for improvement. It saved a ton of time because sometimes there can be over 200 quotes to analyze. In the business of providing value fast, it's helped a ton!
I Created My Community: Liberated Manager's Network
https://www.skool.com/liberated-managers-network-6326 I took the plunge and created a community with a free trial. The Liberated Manager's Network is up and ready to begin. If you are in management, or know anyone in management, please consider joining the community and passing along my link to others to join. My goal is to have this community be one that is a place for managers to come to share the issues and challenges they're facing and receive suggestions and solutions from the community. I intend to post all the videos I create as well as podcasts, content, and give away the PDF format of my book.

What's your biggest question about getting clients?
If you want clients right now but can't seem to get any, let me know what you feel is holding you back.

Got the website, the book, the evidence and data that what I have will help them, and even pursuing pro bono work to build testimonials and clients. Alas...still no takers. Perhaps I'm just a bit impatient and need to keep grinding. But, this HAS to work. I have no choice. I've been unemployed since April and I am TOTALLY F'ING SICK of working "in" corporate America. It's time to work "on" corporate America. Unemployment runs out in two weeks. Need to git-r-done! By the way, I just had an article featured as the top article on allBusiness that outlines hidden costs - what my high-ticket offer addresses. https://www.allbusiness.com/hidden-costs-of-running-a-business

@Brian Ellwood It's not that they're explicitly turning it down. They just ignore it. Aside from added visibility and credibility, one reason I published the article was so that people would understand how badly hidden costs are hurting their businesses. I don't think it's resonating because they don't understand what it is. Looking forward to our discussion later today.
