First European Champs
Since we got a lot of IM-ers in the MindGym I thought I share another one from the summer. This was a pressure cooker!!! @Gartmann Gartmann had trained well all season but this summer was going to be different: He qualified for the 2024 Summer European Championships in Belgrade. That was a big breakthrough for Gian-Luca Gartmann. And at the same time... It seemed scary. As the big race got closer, doubt and insecurity crept in... We mostly worked on his breathing, not freaking out during taper when something didn't go as planned, and visualization. He then went to Belgrade and crushed it at his first Euro Champs. So happy for him and he continues to perform great. Injury
My daughter has had time off due to an ankle injury. Anyone got any advice on how to get back into training as she’s got a meet coming up and wants to drop her PB’s? Thanks

I would focus on technique through working on drills and gradually build up with endurance and sprint work. Also, I would adjust the expectations, accepting that it might take longer time to get back to dropping her PBs. Use this experience as a learning experience for her to better know her body and how it builds up to shape.

My daughter has just had a week off training as we have been on holiday. Should she go hard in her first session back or ease herself back in?

My personal opinion is to gradually build her shape back up. Focus on technique the first few days and build up with faster swimming as her feel of the water returns.
Turning EVERYTHING Into Fuel: A Lesson from Michael Phelps 🐐
Picture this: Michael Phelps, already a swimming superstar, is at a dinner... Some random swim mom tells him he has NO chance of winning the 100m butterfly at the Olympics. Ouch, right? But guess what? Phelps used that doubt to FIRE HIM UP. He won gold, beating his teammate who was the world record holder! 🥇 This is what's called the "Everything is Motivation" mindset. It means taking ALL your experiences – good or bad – and using them to get better. Think about it: - Bad practice? Use it to push harder tomorrow. - Someone trash-talking you? Use it to crush them in the pool. 😈 - Disappointing race? Use it to learn from your mistakes. Phelps even used that swim mom's negativity to fuel his Olympic win! "Remember how [that swim mom] told me I could never win the 100m butterfly? Well, what’s up now?" - Michael Phelps Here's the deal: Waiting to "feel" motivated is a trap. Motivation is a CHOICE. I've been using the aforementioned technique by Michael Phelps for years. Works well for long-term motivation. Also, I like watching professional swimming events like the Swimming World Cup right now, to get some in-season motivation.
