A while back @Corey Ralston had a post on his blog on using Carrd.co for a simple website for actors. As we are heading into a local actors expo where some local and regional management companies are attending, I wanted to my daughter to have a website so they could see beyond the headshot/resumรฉ she will hand out. I followed Corey's advice and created a simple clean website. She has few credits so I didn't want to add a resume there but did add relevant links I believe. The slideshow currently has only two pictures but will have more - I just need to make the files smaller. I welcome any feedback!

The Importance of Video Examples for Aspiring Child Actors
As a youth talent manager, I can't stress enough how crucial it is for aspiring child actors to have a quality video example of their on-camera acting skills. Whether it's a well-crafted self-tape or a polished clip for a demo reel, this visual representation of your child's talent can be a game-changer in their budding career. In today's fast-paced entertainment industry, casting directors and talent reps are inundated with submissions. A strong video example allows your child to stand out from the crowd and showcase their unique abilities. It's an opportunity to demonstrate not just their look, but their ability to take direction, convey emotions, and bring characters to life. Here's why a video example is so valuable: 1. It showcases range: A good video clip can highlight various aspects of your child's talent - from dramatic scenes to comedic timing, or even special skills like accents or physical comedy. 2. It demonstrates professionalism: Having a well-prepared video shows that your child takes their craft seriously and understands industry expectations. 3. It saves time: Casting directors can quickly assess if your child might be right for a role, potentially leading to more audition opportunities. 4. It builds confidence: The process of creating and reviewing their performance can help your child become more comfortable in front of the camera and more assured in their abilities. Creating a quality video example doesn't require professional equipment. A smartphone with good lighting and clear audio in a quiet space can suffice. Focus on short, impactful scenes that highlight your child's strengths and versatility. Remember, authenticity is key. The goal isn't perfection, but to capture your child's unique personality and talent. This video is their chance to make a strong first impression and show the industry what makes them special. At Child Actor 101, we're committed to helping young actors succeed. That's why we're excited to offer our "Two Scenes" program, designed specifically to help aspiring child actors create professional-quality video examples.

Coogans and work permits
So Iโ€™m trying to get a California permit and a New York permit and open up a Coogan account. And I have some questions. We live in Georgia, so would me opening up a Coogan account in Georgia count for a job in letโ€™s say LA? Or do I need to open up a Coogan account in LA? Also on work permits, we homeschool. How do we get a work permit in LA/New York if we homeschool? We are not tied to any school district because Georgia does not have us reporting to anyone. The only thing we do is we register every year that we will be homeschooling said children. The school district does not know anything about my homeschooling whatsoever so how could they sign off on anything?

I applied for a permit in CA without a Coogan but with the trust account used for the NY permit and the only defect I had was to use the CA School form. If you have a trust account for NY it seems CA will accept that. For the homeschooling in GA you do not have to report progress to anyone? I guess you can send the DOI, the last tests, and the link to GA and see what they say to that.

Audition Repertoire
Hi! Iโ€™ve been updating my audition rep book for musical theatre and Iโ€™ve got a pretty solid selection but Iโ€™m missing a few categories Currently what I have is Ring of Keys - Fun Home Sixteen Going on Seventeen- Sound of Music Stupid with Love - Mean Girls Somewhere- West Side Story Dance with You- The Prom I Know Things Now- Into the Woods Someone to Watch Over Me- Ella Fitzgerald Girl Scout - Beetlejuice Now Im looking for a pop/rock piece and a Disney piece. Iโ€™m 14 and an alto (approx g3-c5 but Iโ€™m not entirely sure) If anybody has any suggestions for pieces i should add/take out that would be greatly appreciated.

for Pop/Rock can I suggest SIX? Heart of Stone, All You Wanna Do (may not be alto but has a great personality). For Disney "how far I'll go" from Moana, "The Next Right Thing" or "Into the Unknown" from Frozen 2 (I prefer the former as it is not as overplayed and gives you a better acting range as well) and one of my personal favorites "Mother Knows Best" from Tangled.
Turning Down a Role
We auditioned for a role, short film, unpaid, 5 hours drive away - as we usually do to get experience - she didn't get it but got a background role. Normally we would take it but that same weekend is her BFF bday so I am not going to ask to move stuff around or create a hassle for us just for the background role. How do we professionally turn this down without looking like we are sore losers (we are not).
