Been studying the pentateuch for seminary the past month. turns out leviticus is actually a fascinating book, learning a lot of stuff i didn’t know. 2 things specifically 1. the whole book can seem out of place for us because it was written to be read aloud. it has a communal intent, if we read it thinking of ourselves only as individuals it won’t make sense. the book is about the good of the community, because sin affects all of us. that’s why the love commandment in chapter 19 (“love your neighbor as yourself”) specifically says to rebuke your friend directly so you don’t have to answer for their sin. 2. idea of purifying the tabernacle is incredible! the people understood that these sacrifices needed to take place so that God would not remove His presence. they kept themselves and the camp and the holy of holies pure to maintain God’s presence on the earth.
