Smoke Smell

How do you get smoke smell out of a sweater? I washed it and it still sorta smells. Is there something I can wash it in that will get rid of that smell?? I don't smoke but this person who owned this must have. Normally I notice smoke smell prior to purchase. Can you wash a sweater in vinegar??
