Where I don't (officially anyway) have ADD or ADHD, I do get distracted Easily. In this quick video, Russell shares 5 of his most useful Hacks to stay focused.
The ones most helpful for me are
- Set Deadlines (do or die ...silver or lead 😊). If I don't have a deadline, something will always come up to get my attention. This is probably the most important for me, especially if it is soon. I need a big goal & a short deadline to get me fired up and to feel that I won't make it without doing the work Now!
- Public Accountability. I am not really competitive (though I love the high energy). But, when I decide on a goal, I hate to lose/fail and I will continue until it works. And, if I announce a deadline and my goal, I have Got to make it work. 😊
The 5 Hacks that Russell mentions are (not in any order)
- Set a deadline for your Goal
- Set milestones (reverse engineer for these dealines)
- Celebrate reaching milestones (get that dopamine hit)
- Document your progress publicly
- Use healthy/helpful distractions (fidgets, standing desk, treadmill, audio w/music, binaural beats)

The last one (healthy distractions) was very helpful with my son (w/ ADHD) to keep him engaged with his work. In fact, it was one reason why he enjoyed playing the violin (and played well). laying the violin required paying attention to so many small details that it made him focus in order to play.
