Latest Mental Mastery Lesson: Tapping Into The Flow State
The lesson explores the concept of flow state in hockey and how it can lead to consistent high-level performance. I discuss the importance of mental skills and being present in the game. He references the work of flow researcher Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and mental coach George Mumford. I identify the three flow blockers: mental distractions, overemphasis on winning, and a lack of present-moment awareness. I then provide three ways to get into flow consistently: meditation, letting go of perfection and the need to win, and letting the software (mental abilities) run. I conclude by discussing microflow and macroflow and the benefits of improving mental game skills.
