I'm planning on building a free course for this community that will cover all the foundations needed to compose, produce and mix amazing-sounding music.
Here's my current loose outline (with fun titles, because why not):
Module 1: "Sonic Alchemy: Mastering the Art of Sound
- Introduction to the physics of sound, including waveforms, frequency, and amplitude
- Basics of recording audio, including microphone types, placement, and signal flow
- Familiarization with common audio terminology and concepts essential for understanding music production
Module 2: "Digital Wizardry: Unveiling the Mysteries of DAWs
- Introduction to Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) and their basic functions using Ableton
- Understanding MIDI technology and its role in music production for composition and performance.
- Overview of audio processing tools such as EQ, compression, and reverb, and their applications
Module 3: "Harmony Unleashed: Music Theory for Modern Maestros
- Understanding intervals, chords, scales, modes, and their role in music composition and improvisation
- Basics of rhythm, time signatures, and rhythmic patterns in music
- Techniques for composing melodic phrases and motifs, and developing memorable parts
Module 4: "Creative Catalyst: Exploring the Depths of Sound Design
- Introduction to sound design concepts and synthesis techniques for creating unique sounds and textures.
- Understanding sampling technology and techniques for sampling and manipulating audio recordings.
- Exploration of creative effects and processing techniques for shaping and sculpting sound
Module 5: "Home studio setup for recording, mixing and playability
- The anatomy of a home studio, gear, plugins, tools, etc.
- Acoustic treatment 101 and how to make the best of your space
- Computers, software, hardware and instruments
