Who wants to test my Music Creator "second brain"?
The Music Creator Dashboard V1.0 will be ready later this week. WTF is a Music Creator Dashboard? I thought you'd never ask :) It's essentially an entire system of processes, information & workflows that acts as a "second brain" for everything I do as a Music Creator. I've created a simplified and streamlined version of what I personally use to give to you. It can be an absolute life changer - once you know how to use it. Here's a tiny sneak peek at what it does: - Keeps you focused on your dream vision, staying consistent and enjoying the process - Helps you plan + make progress on your goals by breaking them down into projects and actions - Tracks all the habits you want to build - Shows you where your music, content & client projects are at a glance - Give you the best practices to capture your insights and keep your life on track It's also jam packed with my favourite frameworks to finish awesome music, create content and maintain a positive mindset. It might feel like a lot... but trust me, it's totally worth it. I'm looking for a few people who want to learn how to use it, test it out and report back with any kinks or aspects that feel off or confusing. Any takers? 👇

What are your thoughts about AI & music?
I'd love to open a discussion about AI & Music. I've played around with tools like Udio & Suno and have gotten some cool ideas and inspiration to explore different directions, which is cool. A lot of it doesn't quite hit the mark for me - but there was a few really unique & cool ideas it gave me based on some of my flow sessions. I might end up using some of it as inspiration in my own music, though still plan re interpreting and producing the ideas myself. There's a huge uproar about algorithms being trained on copywriter work without content from the original artists. AI could potentially replace artists for music for commercials, background music and even production work. Some completely AI artists are already gaining popularly - and I'm pretty sure there way a guy who created an AI artist, generated AI music then got AI to listen to his own track and broke Spotify - which is both hilarious and sad. What do you think about AI + Music? 👇

Yep I try to use it like a plug in! Live streaming and music creation can stay a bit alive in the ai revolution. Especially if documenting more of the creation process. Like these gents mention: https://youtu.be/tQ5BDeSqlNU?si=SQuvKvMxfpMMmiWX https://youtu.be/kmyLZMnfOyg?si=xe9486ZcLUgHsK9D Also stem extraction from udio generated stuff is pretty neat
Everything's a belief
You will only act to the level of your belief. Let that sink in... You will NEVER act out of alignment of your beliefs. That's why beliefs is THE MOST important thing to get right for your music (and life in general). It's something that Incredible artists, top performing athletes and successful business people all have in common - they have belief systems that serve them in their journey. So...what's a belief? Without going down the rabbit hole, at its most basic form a belief is a statement perceived truth. (we'll save what "truth" is for another time) An example of a belief could be: - Finishing music is hard - I'm not good enough to make quality music - No one will listen to my music As you can see, if someone were to hold even one of these beliefs will follow suit with their behaviours. The great thing about belief systems is that they can change since they're are perceived truths, not absolute truths. So... how do we change them? Before being able to change them - we need to know how they're created first. You can think of a belief as as a spectrum with a scale. For example: on one extreme we can have "finishing music is effortless" and on the other we have "finishing music is impossible". Then we have the whole range in -between. Most of the time a belief isn't a "yes", or "no, but rather... "how much?" Belief is created by experience. Throughout your life, you go through events that tip the scales and solidify your worldview. Maybe you had an uncle that spent YEARS composing pieces of music, maybe you tried to play trumpet in band class and sucked, maybe the first song you ever wrote was rejected by your friend... Those experiences stack up. Over time they create beliefs, in this case "music is hard and I'm not good at it". Here's the game changer.. your brain don't know the different between "real life" experiences and "imaginary" experiences. What does that mean? You can create experiences that tip the scales of your beliefs IN YOUR MIND. Visualizing a situation, reciting a statement of truth and feeling an associated emotion is THE SAME as formative childhood memorized and hardened belief systems - to your brain at least.

Mixing Made Easy
Mixing tends to get overcomplicated and shrouded in mystery. In truth, with the right approach it can be pretty simple, fun and easy. Let me breakdown mixing as I understand it to simplify the entire process. 1. Know your @##% It’s crucial to understand the foundations of mixing. You don’t need to get crazy with advanced techniques and fancy plugins. You just need to master the basic tools, concepts and best practices. If you don’t know how a compressor works, aren’t aware of what peak and RMS signal is or haven’t trained your ears to hear EQ changes… Mixing will always be hard. If you still need to build your mixing foundations, start there. If you need help with that - drop a comment under this post. 2. Repeatable process When I mix a track I know exactly what I’m doing and in what order. Believe it or not, having this type of structure gives you the freedom to actually be creative. It also stops you from tweaking yourself in circles. Here’s the process I follow: 1. Organize your session 2. Set up routing 3. Balance levels (rough mix) 4. Process tracks 5. Automation 6. Special effects 7. Finalize & reference I dive deep into exactly how I suggest you start you mix here. 3. Focus on what matters Assuming you’ve got a grasp of the processors and understand how to mix effectively, next is to stay focused on what actually matters to create an impactful mix. Mixing is partly a science but at the end of the day, it’s an art form. Ultimately no one will care what type of processors or techniques you use. All they care about is how the music makes them feel. That's why I use the concept of 5D mixing (because why not) and the acronym VISTA. I keep these dimensions in mind as I go through my mixing process to keep me focused on the ART of mixing. 1 - Volume & Frequency I see this as the Y Axis. Most important dimension BY FAR. EQ is like 1000 tiny volume faders for the frequency range. The main focus is carving space for where instruments want to live frequency wise, making concessions for what gets more attention, small volume changes have big impact.

Got a weird relationship with mixing! Most of my stuff goes up on youtube or instagram, not spotify yet, so I have compressors jacked up on voice/piano/ etc to it hits that closer to target LUFs out of Ableton or OBS..even sometimes recording in OBS it seems lower than what I hear in Ableton. I often am too lazy to pan or EQ everything so just let a wash of sounds exist. Never been a super sculptor so I probably have some clashy mid ranges when I throw something up with lots of instruments going on. I like using return tracks for reverb so I can quickly vibe-ify something lol..sometimes to the detriment of other sounds but it's fun!
