Quick intro on why you should listen to our advice:
We have made over $5,000,000 JUST in YouTube ad revenue for ourselves (not just helped other people do it and claiming it's ours), have been full-time YouTubers for 10+ years, and never really ventured outside of YouTube, so have mastered just ONE platform. We have a team of 15+ YouTube experts across all areas of content creation and know our s**t when it comes to YouTube.
Okay, let's get into it.....
'JUST START' π
You see that motto a lot when it comes to things in life, and while we agree with it, there are levels to this statement that need to be considered.
The idea behind 'JUST START' is simple. Most people don't start in the first place, so starting already gets you moving in the right direction.
Similarly, waiting for things to be 'perfect' and avoiding starting sooner can harm your progress.
However, when it comes to YouTube, does the 'JUST START' mentality apply?
Our opinion: NOT ALWAYS π€
& here's why...
Consistency is one of the key ingredients to a successful YouTube channel. You NEED to upload regularly in order to have a chance (once every other week is the ABSOLUTE minimum).
So is 'JUST START', without any clear direction, a good idea?
Is 'JUST START', without any time to work on your next video, a good idea? When you already have a hundred other life jobs to deal with?
Is 'JUST STARTING', a random YouTube channel without any research into it, a good idea?
Not really.
Yes, some people do make it this way, but the vast majority don't, and you probably won't either.
So what if you're eager to start but are unsure if you can maintain a regular upload schedule?
There is one REALLY simple solution:
'JUST START' making videos, but DON'T START uploading them yet....
- START planning your videos
- START practising your scripts
- START your presentation, your narration, your editing
- START getting a feel for all these things and build up a nice back catalogue of content ready to upload once you officially launch your channel.
We've said this before, and we will continue to say it.
We do not launch a new YouTube channel without at least five videos ready to go. That gives us a FIVE-week head start. We miss a week, it doesn't matter, we can still upload and keep the algorthm happy as well as our audience.
And guess what? We have a team of 15+ people working on all aspects of our YouTube videos, and we STILL have a 5-video backlog, even though we don't often need it.
Five weeks' worth of content should be YOUR baseline before you think about launching your channel.
Yes, you're five weeks behind launching, but it won't feel like that because life will get in the way, you will get busy, and if you're not prepared, before you know it, three weeks have passed, and you've not uploaded.
YouTube can see you're not being consistent, so can you audience, and your channel is going to struggle to move the the next level, meaning you have to work even harder, when you could have just waited before you uploaded your first video. Trust us, you WILL be glad of that back catalogue of videos....
TAKEAWAY: 'JUST START' working on your channel, but don't JUST START uploading your videos untill you have a backcatalouge, ideally 5 videos.
