i had to learn this the HARD way...
Yoo, what's upā¦ This post could genuinely be the difference between you making $5k-10k/mo, Or deciding to quit copywriting in a couple of weeks. Let me explain: It was a sunny school morning, just 3 months ago. I had a sales call with my potential first client at 5:30 AMā¦ My eyes were begging for mercy as I forced myself to open them and get out of bedā¦ I SOMEHOW managed to make it to my desk, and get on the call. A couple mins into the call, me and my prospect were chillin' togetherā¦ šThis was until he brought up the price.š I asked him how much heād be willing to pay meā¦ And with a small bit of uncertainty in his voice, he said āaroundā¦$2K/moā My heart started pounding off my chest, My ears started ringing, It felt like WW3 in my head! I couldnāt show it though. So I calmly agreed to the price and about 3 minutes later we got off the call. RIGHT when I hit that āleave meetingā button, I started jumping up and down in excitement.š My first client was paying me 4 figures a MONTH. However, both I and my client knew that the job wasn't over. I STILL had to write a long-ass welcome sequenceā¦ So thatās what I did. After a week of hitting my Picasso touches on this welcome sequenceā¦ We launched what I THOUGHT, was some of my best work. But man was I quickly humbledā¦ Just 72 hours later, I checked how the emails were performingā¦ 5% open rate?? My ego felt like it got hit by a full-force punch from Mike Tyson. That sequence was converting as much as a pitch from those IG paragraph bandits in the 4D discord. And this ALL happened because the emails were landing in spam. I was using shit SLs, and spammy language in the emails. And sadly, it wasnāt long till my client caught onā¦ I made him $300 MAX for what he paid me. So obviously, he decided to stop working with meā¦ It felt humblingā¦to say the least. I didnāt touch my desk for 2 days. (thatās how demotivated I was) But from that day on, I learned the #1 lesson I use to close & keep retainer clients like it's lightworkā¦
