Simple AI open source application I created, inspired by EditGPT
For the hardcore AI enthusiasts. 😁 This week, I wrote an application in python that uses Ollama (local LLM server) and llama3.1:8b to enhance a text with preconfigured prompts. There are also the possibility to translate the text and use your own prompts. You need to have Python and Ollama installed. It's great if you want to make sure your text isn't used to train future AI models. In future versions, I will add the possibility to used different models installed with Ollama to do NSFW editing by adding a dropdown list with the LLMs available. I also created an executable windows application where all you need is Ollama and llama3.1:8b, no need for Python. Check it out. 👍 https://github.com/wenrolland/TextEnhanceAI

@Russell Scott Python is a programming language very well adapted to programming with AI. It's considered the main AI coding language at this moment. Ollama is an AI server to host local large language models (LLMs). This way, my data is safe and can't be used by others since it's not travelling on the internet. It's also very useful for NSFW writing like sex scenes and violent content since I can use uncensored models. It can be used to chat, like chatGPT, but can also be used by other programs, like I did in my app, to serve the AI enabling application to use AI.

@Steven Allen In my previous life, I was a computer analyst and programmer. I quit that to become an ecological designer, and now all my learnings are becoming useful again to work with and create these amazing AI tools. Right now I'm working on function calling to get my program to do more like download a Wikipedia page about the region I'm writing about and include the data in it's thinking, for example. All things ChatGPT can do but is a bit harder to do with local AI, so my data stays safe on my computer.
New year's resolution already off to a bad start...
I set a goal for myself this year to try and average 15000 words a month. Only 500 a day. Should be easy, right? However, day 1 and I've just been staring at blank screen all day on one of my rare days off outside of home time (I'm a truck driver). Does anybody have any tips on how to overcome this? I've got my book plotted out and I know where I'm trying to go with it, but, I'm stuck at every corner....

Can you give us examples of what's blocking you and where you feel stuck? I often go to AI to get unstuck in many situations these days. It's like having a very knowledgeable pal to chat with. I even use the voice mode in ChatGPT to have productive conversations that stimulate my creativity and gets me going. You can create custom GPTs with your book material and chat with this information in the loop. If you feel comfortable, you could probably be on the road and just talk with ChatGPT in voice mode and work on your story while driving, just like talking on the phone hands free. 🤘
Historical Fiction
Does anybody have an AI to recommend for a historical fiction? I keep getting things like flashlights in 1867 in my prose. One of my modern characters discovers her ancestor's diary and bits of the diary will be integral throughout the series. I want to write the entire diary, hopefully to sell as a companion book.

@Bruno Brennan - Ok. I don't know much about NC but there must be a place where you can set system instructions that will be sent to the AI every time you interact with it. In RaptorWrite, I have a section just for that purpose, that is always "on", so it's always part of the prompt, at the beginning of my project so the AI gets the instructions. I write in that section something about the context of the story and it looks like : System Instructions : Remember, this story is set in 1995. Be historically accurate about objects, technologies and language. It works quite well.

@Bruno Brennan Awesome, thanks for this info. I have a project with my brother, and we've been creating a lot of the backstory. We want the story to be about people adapting in a collapsing world. Can we do collaborative work on NC? Maybe if we share an account or something... I'll look into it.
What are your writing goals for 2025?
1. Reflection of the past year 2. Defining your writing and publishing goals I wrote one book last year. My writing and publishing goals are to write six to seven books and get them published. I will write, edit, and outline each month. Example: Jan is writing/outlining LITS. Feb is to write LTIS and outline HHA. March is to write HHA and outline a vampire book, and April is to edit LITS, write a vampire book, outline the next vampire, and so on. I put the book away for a month before editing it, and then a month later, I will publish it.

Great idea! 🌸 1. Reflection of the past year : I wrote down a couple of good ideas for story. I tested many tools and prompts to help me write better texts and stories. I used AI to help me complete a contract for a city to write a Food Forest Maintenance Guide in French. I found the collaborative process very inspiring and motivating. It's impossible to get stuck with these tools. It's also very possible to have too many good ideas and just not be able to finish... 2. Defining your writing and publishing goals : I want to write a complete book on Food Forest design for Cold Climate. I want to write a collaborative "cozy style" book about world collapse with my brother and AI. We've been talking about it for 2 years now, our ideas are getting clearer and clearer. I want to get it done. I want to write short stories to explore themes and get my writing on, get better at it.
My goals
Hi, My name is Susan Caldwell and I live in Montréal, Québec, Canada. I've lived here since 1976, taught psychology in a college here and retired 19 years ago. I would like to write a textbook for a course on world analysis that I would like to teach - online obviously. The only book I've written was a dissertation for my doctorate - but that was really more 'note and quote', rather than creative writing. So I'm definitely interested in non-fiction writing as the basis for my project but also recognise that creative fiction writing can make anything one reads more interesting to the reader. Also, I'm interested in learning how to frame the various parts of my course based on how one structures a novel. My favourite thing to do is to learn about almost anything - but especially geography and the cultural history of different places. This includes watching videos about the places and what it is like to travel there. I also like to find mystery books set in the country/town that I'm interested in as one learns how the people think about their lives and what is going on, set within their story about the city or country.

Bonjour Susan. I'm just north of Montréal in Ste-Thérèse. :) If you know your subject, AI can be an amazing catalyst to get the best out of you and put it down in writing. I've written many textbooks for my courses, it's a lot of work. I just recently started working on Technical Guides with AI, and it's a great help so far. I will probably rewrite some of my other textbooks with the help of AI. The base knowledge is there, and I have many notes for additions and changes here and there. I will integrate all of this using AI. Happy writing in the new year!
